fiulijn (5860), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Dec 17, 2003 Updated: May 21, 2007 Draught at Hop Devil, NYC, 2007-01-01, 7-5-10-5-18=45 Dark color; persistent creamy head. Aroma of roasted malt, delicate, a bit yeasty. The mouthfeel is incredibly smooth and velvety, good malt, sweetness, not oily, caramel and good roasted malt, a powerful hopping that cannot overwhelm the malt. The final has hop, a lot of caramel and some sweet liquorice. Incredibly pleasant to drink.
Bottle, 2003-12-04, 9-5-10-5-18=47 Brown color, brown thin creamy head. Strong aroma: chocolate, roasted malt, light coffee, dust, liquorice, hop, very light cheesy ammonia. Flows in my mouth like velvety malt ambrosia. Harmonious fugue of roasted malt, malty sweetness, liquorice, caramel, hops, nuts, wallnuts and roasted nuts. Long final, a lot of coffee.
mjs (512), Helsinki, Finland Sep 3, 2008 (Bottle) Black. Tan medium sized head. Coffee and rostedness in nose. Full bodied and dryish palate with little carbonation. Coffee, roasted malts, liquorice and bitterness in taste. Long coffee flavoured aftertaste. Very good imperial stout. Jonte (372), Gothenburg, Sweden Aug 31, 2008 Black color with a nice brown head. Aroma: Highly roasted malt, licorice, dark chocolate, coffee, hops, alcohol, and some light notes of dark fruit.
Flavor: Heavily roasted/burned and bitter with notes of espresso, salmiak, tar, dark chocolate and alcohol. Some sweetness but mostly on the roasted and bitter side. Dry finish. Probably even better after storing for a while.
Kaizen666 (16), , New York, USA Aug 28, 2008 Bottle. Pours black as Satan’s heart with a wonderfully inviting tan head that tells you right away you are going to get a kick in the sack if you’re some pansy drinker. Felt like I was having sex with a Victoria’s Secret model who tasted of roasted coffee and chocolate. Fantastic beer. spikester (413), Salem, Oregon, USA Aug 26, 2008 Pours black with huge long lasting tan head and copious lacings. Aroma is potent-coffee and cocoa.
Taste is bitter chocolate and strong rich coffee. Has a nice bitter, warming finish. Smooth and rich. The alcohol is apparent but ends up buried in all the good flavors. Nice brew. Pershing (78), Garland, Texas, USA Aug 26, 2008 Magnificent, Pours black with a nice tan head that remains around thanks to tiny bubbles. The sweetness is perfectly balanced the right amount of hops. Not for the faint of heart. An exceptional beer that may be the best in this style in the entire World. Well worth the Price.
