Produced in the tradition of 18th Century English brewers who supplied the court of Russia’s Catherine the Great, Old Rasputin seems to develop a cult following wherever it goes. It’s a rich, intense brew with big complex flavors and a warming finish.

The Old Rasputin brand image is a drawing of Rasputin with a phrase in Russian encircling it—A sincere friend is not born instantly.

JAAAA. Alles sehr amerikanisch.

UPDATED: FEB 9, 2016 At least aged for 1.5 years. Dark brown, almost black. In the aroma: dark fruits, bread, roasted malt, a little bit smoky. Taste: burnt malt and some alcohol - much less than in fresh one. In dry aftertaste bitterness of totally burnt malt and dark bread. Good enough.

Tap at tap house. Black color with tan head. Aroma is dark chocolate, some booze, some vanilla, some "Old Ale" feeling with toffee. Taste is chocolate, some booze. Bitter hoppy finish. Intense for 9ABV, but not exactly my cup of tea.

Burnt chocolate notes with traces of charred oak and vanilla. Slight coffee aftertaste, as well as a kind of IPA flavor as well. Strange I know for an Imperial Stout, but I did seem to recall IPA bitters. Went down too smooth, and at 9.0 I must say, you need to make sure not to drink more than one before getting up to use the restroom. Drink two in 10 minutes, and when you stand up you may very well end up sitting on the floor going "Eh?"...

Where: On draft at Bass Lake Pub, Holly Springs NC. How: 12 oz snifter pour. Appearance: Dark, ruby brown color with one finger of thick tan head that fades slowly with a uniform curtain of lace. Aroma: Roasted malt, cocoa, raisins and hints of tobacco. Taste: Roasted taste, with dark chocolate a bit of coffee underneath, alcohol warmth that is well balanced. Palate: smooth and creamy. Overall: Amazing beer, give it a try for sure.

A very pleasant stout. Smooth and easy to drink. I prefer a thicker mouth feel overall.

12 fl oz. bottle. Pours black in colour with a foamy beige head leaving lacing. Nose of roast malt, dark fruits, chocolate & coffee. Flavour is roasted malt, some sweetness, fruity, raisins, bitter chocolate, coffee, with earthy bitterness. Smoothish mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry roasted bitter finish. Very drinkable.
