COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Produced in the tradition of 18th Century English brewers who supplied the court of Russia’s Catherine the Great, Old Rasputin seems to develop a cult following wherever it goes. It’s a rich, intense brew with big complex flavors and a warming finish.

The Old Rasputin brand image is a drawing of Rasputin with a phrase in Russian encircling it—A sincere friend is not born instantly.

Poured from a bottle. Dark brown, almost black with a mocha head that leaves some splotchy lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, bitter chocolate and espresso notes. Taste is semi-sweet followed by a nice dose of hoppy bitterness. Medium body; smooth and creamy. Overall, excellent RIS.

One of the best imperial stout that I have tried: a very pleasant smell, strong dark-colored color and a strong aftertaste. Undoubtedly one of my favorite beers.

Served in a tulip. Oily. Black with a big brown head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, vanilla, wood, olives and red and dark fruits. Complex but weak aroma. Taste is citric, roasted malt, coffee, cocoa and alcohol. Finish is bitter. I expected more body for this one.

Bottled. Pours pitch black with a creamy tan head. Aroma is lots of dark chocolate, coffee, booze. Lots of roasted malts, little bit of vanilla. Flavor is coffee bitterness and intense dark chocolate. Good full body on it. Maybe less substantial than a normal American imperial. But not weak like a normal low ABV Stout. Nice long coffee bitterness finish.

Pours dark black with big tan head. Aroma is heavy chocolate and roast. Big chocolate malt body. Some roast flavor, vanilla, little alcohol. Simple buy perfect.

Pours a dark brown with a light tan head. The viscosity is slightly oily. The aroma is of slightly bitter coffee, OK but not too strong. The flavor is mostly all coffee. Somewhat mild but full flavored. It fills you mouth and lingers for awhile after you swallow. The smoothness of the drink and the fullness of the coffee flavor leave no bitterness, burn, or bad aftertaste even for the high alcohol content. I first tried this a few years ago which is why I got more interested in Imperial Stouts. I enjoy it for what it is but I would like something with a little more variety in the flavor. If all you want is the coffee flavor then this will do it. If you want some fruitiness or malt then try some others.

Smells great, super leafy hoppy, umami/soy smell, hint of sweetness, roasted malt and a hint of milk chocolate. Super dark and big creamy luxurious brown head. Tastes great, quite well balanced. Upfront an agressive herbacious/leafy hoppyness, finishing sweet, umami, caramel and a hint of chocolate. Not overly complex but a nicely balanced example of the style. Medium bodied (wished it was a bit thicker) and average carbonation. Quite nice.

12 oz. bottle. Pours clear pitch black with a thick coffee colored head. Taste of sweet caramel, dark chocolate and black coffee. Slightly fruity. Very malty for super smoothness that leads to moderate bitterness. Extremely well balanced. Rich flavors hide the alcohol nicely. It’s all been said; world class.

Sampled from the tap at the Sidedoor, Chicago. Black colour with a beige head. Very boozy aroma, with scents of roasted malts and coffee. The taste is of espresso coffee and dark chocolate, with hints of dried fruit.. Biiter finish. A strong and characterful stout.

Backlog rating. 12oz bottle from Utobeer, London. It pours dark brown color with a large mocha head. Aroma is intensely roasty with some dark chocolate and cocoa. Taste is bittersweet with cocoa powder, freshly grinded coffee beans, candy sugar and wood. Body is full and creamy with good carbonation. Really good RIS

The head is good, body black. It smells coffee, fruity, a bit plum, alcoholic. The taste is creamy, malty, bit coffee, ok. Should be aged longer, otherwise good!
