When the word Stout was applied to a beer I feel this is what the originator was drinking. This is a strong, flavorful beer. Drink it like you are thirsty and it will reward you with a hefty amount of tastes. slightly more acidic or vinegary than most, carbonation may ’burn’ the roof of your mouth if you are not quick to drink this one.

Huge light brown head with lacing that runs the length of the glass. Initial taste is creamy but then snaps to an interesting dryness on the finish. Chocolate and cherry flavors.

I don’t drink stouts that often, but when I do, I like them like this one. Dark dark dark and strongly stout, like a bitter thick coffee. Rich and intense. Drink it slow. And enjoy! 9%alc/vol

Room temp bottle into snifter. No date, but I don’t think it’s more than 6 months old. Black, small head. A swirl brings up a big tan head. Aroma - malty, berries, sharp alcohol coming through quite strongly. Body is medium, very foamy in the mouth, carbonation is low. Taste - chocolatey, sharp and alcoholic despite the relatively low ABV for the style. I cannot conceive of why this would get such a high rating on RB. Foamy, one dimensional and with noticeable alcohol, it fails to achieve the main things I look for in an imperial stout.

From the bottle, Old Rasputin pours with a creamy head that soon settles into unique lacing. This smooth brew has a lot going on and hides its alcohol well. It recently reigned champion over 31 other beers in a march madness bracket style beer-off held by Louisville Dads Beer Club. Cellaring may only improve this fine fine brew.

I had one of these a couple of years back and thought it was ok. Then several months ago, I tasted Ten Fidy by Oscar Blues. Ten Fidy has become my standard now for RIS brews. I would drink the Old Rasputin again if offered but given a choice of this or the TF, the TF wins hands down.

Terrific beer! Great dark color and frothy head with amazingly inviting creamy lacing. Not an overwhelming aroma but distinct, and a terrific chocolate and coffee flavor.
