Delirium (430), Santa Cruz, California, USA Apr 1, 2006 Updated: Apr 2, 2008 Re-rate from bottle. So either I got a weird batch in the draught rating below, or it’s quite a bit different. From bottle, pours black with a small, lasting brown head. Aroma is roast malt, mainly coffee with some chocolate notes. Flavor is strongly roast malt with an espresso bitterness, a hint of sweeter malt below that, and some bittering hops. Pretty good. Still a 3.7, for different reasons.
Draught. Pours dark black. Aroma is somewhat unusual for an imperial stout. There are the usual chocolate and semi-sweet malt aromas, but also an oddly strong floral and fruity scent. The flavor is more bitter and coffee/chocolate, although quite rich and sweet. The sweetness is balanced by quite a bit of roastiness, but is still somewhat unusual. An interesting experiment, and while I’d drink this again, I think I prefer a more traditional take on the imperial stout.
s01gs (5), Göteborg, Sweden does not count Sep 5, 2008 Nice light brown head. Brown sugar is the dominant bouqet. Flavour is as expected: Coffee, chocolate, sligthly bitter with a noticable alcohol taste that spoils the beer experience to some extent More interesting than good. lithy (149), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 5, 2008 Pitch black pour with a healthy smooth finger of milk chocolate head. Roasty chocolate aroma with some alcohol present. Smooth roastiness transitions effortlessly into hop and chocolate bitterness with a lingering roasted finish. mirjukka (379), LOHJA, Finland Sep 5, 2008 bottle 355ml 7,5e at Gallow’s Bird Espoo
