4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Served in a Westmalle chalice for no other reason that I need to break in the glass.
Rich roasted malt & coffee nose with everything an Imperial Stout requires.
Pours a clear but nearly opaque ultra-dark brown color with a 1 finger creamy tan head that has moderate staying power. Lacing and head retention could be a touch better. The mouthfeel is creamy and robust. The flavor, a clear ’10’, is the high point of this beer. It leads with a crisp bitter bite on the front end, then a touch of sweetness, followed by a rich roastiness that persists through a delicious and wonderfully long finish. The only hint of the alcohol is a just touch of hotness combined with roasted malt acidity in my throat.
Since I’m getting more depressed by the minute that I didn’t buy more when I had the chance, I’ll bump the overall
rating up a notch.
Rerating after a rich stew dinner (same day) - Espresso notes are more clear in flavor and aroma. Flavor and bitterness just ’pop’ from the beer and the staying power of the finish is just astonishing. Bumping overall up 2 to to 19 as I am loving the second half of this beer even more tha tthe first half!!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, Brewdog Leicester. Black with a beige head. Coffee with burnt toast and liquorice. Very peppery with toffee and blackberries. Funky yeast with bitter dark chocolate and lemon. Vinous plumminess with oil and coal. Boozy with a dry, burnt brown sugar finish. Very good.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
I’ll keep it simple. Fruity, roasty, ultra-smooth, silky mouthfeel, little head, dark with lots of red. Dark caramel, hop flavors(grassy), burnt sugars, & more. A classic that ages super well and drinks better young than most beers of the style.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Strong roasted malt aroma with notes of chocolate, coffee and a bit of licorice. Pours black with a large light brown head with excellent retention and good lacing. Starts with dark chocolate flavor with a bit of licorice to go with a rich, full body. Finishes smooth with good roasted malt flavors that gets dominated by straight coffee pretty quick. Nice, imperial stout despite the strong coffee on the finish.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Darkness. Extreme darkness. Smells roasted and toasted. Tastes like espresso. Not very sweet, nor overwhelmingly bitter. Poured this into a 22 oz. snifter and barely got the 12 oz. bottle in, thanks to the massive head. This one is for slow sipping. This high ABV cocoa/coffee style of stout which appears to be pretty popular is not my favorite at all. If I want to actually drink some stout, I’d much rather go with the understated and easy drinking Sam Smith’s or Murphy’s.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark brown, clear, fantastic head. Aroma: not very intensive - malty, coffee, alcohol. Medium body, dry, oily feel, light sweetness, again coffee, roasty, and unfortunately again alcohol.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Roasty aims of chocolate and coffee. Black pour with tan foamy head. Fair lacing. Creamy mouth feel, satisfying full body. Rich classic stout flavor (roasty malts and chocolate) with a nice slightly bitter finish. Another fine beer from NC
