COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Produced in the tradition of 18th Century English brewers who supplied the court of Russia’s Catherine the Great, Old Rasputin seems to develop a cult following wherever it goes. It’s a rich, intense brew with big complex flavors and a warming finish.

The Old Rasputin brand image is a drawing of Rasputin with a phrase in Russian encircling it—A sincere friend is not born instantly.

Served in a Westmalle chalice for no other reason that I need to break in the glass.

Rich roasted malt & coffee nose with everything an Imperial Stout requires. Pours a clear but nearly opaque ultra-dark brown color with a 1 finger creamy tan head that has moderate staying power. Lacing and head retention could be a touch better. The mouthfeel is creamy and robust. The flavor, a clear ’10’, is the high point of this beer. It leads with a crisp bitter bite on the front end, then a touch of sweetness, followed by a rich roastiness that persists through a delicious and wonderfully long finish. The only hint of the alcohol is a just touch of hotness combined with roasted malt acidity in my throat.

Since I’m getting more depressed by the minute that I didn’t buy more when I had the chance, I’ll bump the overall rating up a notch.

Rerating after a rich stew dinner (same day) - Espresso notes are more clear in flavor and aroma. Flavor and bitterness just ’pop’ from the beer and the staying power of the finish is just astonishing. Bumping overall up 2 to to 19 as I am loving the second half of this beer even more tha tthe first half!!

Sampled from the tap at the Sidedoor, Chicago. Black colour with a beige head. Very boozy aroma, with scents of roasted malts and coffee. The taste is of espresso coffee and dark chocolate, with hints of dried fruit.. Biiter finish. A strong and characterful stout.

Backlog rating. 12oz bottle from Utobeer, London. It pours dark brown color with a large mocha head. Aroma is intensely roasty with some dark chocolate and cocoa. Taste is bittersweet with cocoa powder, freshly grinded coffee beans, candy sugar and wood. Body is full and creamy with good carbonation. Really good RIS

The head is good, body black. It smells coffee, fruity, a bit plum, alcoholic. The taste is creamy, malty, bit coffee, ok. Should be aged longer, otherwise good!

Poured from a bottle into a...jar. Possibly a beer foul but was an Italian restaurant so maybe they do it for a reason. Better to let it breathe than keep it in a bottle I thought. Raisin and plum aromas. Caramel and plum flavours with a smooth mouthfeel and slight nip on the tongue. Very nice.

12 Oz bottle. Pours black with a huge brown head that lingers leaving lots of lacing. Aimed of coffee, vanilla, molasses, and some smoke. Flavor starts medium sweet, then quickly goes through a lot of flavors, coffee, and dark fruit, ending on potent, bitter roasted malt and alcohol. Full body with a sticky mouthfeel and mild carbonation. Overall, a lot to like in this beer. Complex aroma and flavor profile, but linger isn’t as pleasant.

Poured dark brown with ruby highlights. Tastes of roasted coffee and dark chocolate; There are hints of vanilla, licorice, grain and dark fruits. It’s a warmer. One of the best, get it, if you can.

Bottle from Biervana, Munich. Pours black. Head brown, bigger than expected stays to the end. In aroma chocolate, coffee. Taste is continuation of aroma, chocolate and coffee. Finish very long with alcohol and bitterness. On the halfway my lips started to stick to the glass. I would definitely recommend and can’t wait to try it again.

On tap at Lions Pub. Pours extremely dark with lovely mocha head. Coffee and chocolate on the nose. Big chocolate and espresso taste. Very well balanced and the alcohol level of this stout is hidden nicely. NIce viscous mouthfeel with a slight sweet finish. Perfect winter beer.
