4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Served in a Westmalle chalice for no other reason that I need to break in the glass.
Rich roasted malt & coffee nose with everything an Imperial Stout requires.
Pours a clear but nearly opaque ultra-dark brown color with a 1 finger creamy tan head that has moderate staying power. Lacing and head retention could be a touch better. The mouthfeel is creamy and robust. The flavor, a clear í10í, is the high point of this beer. It leads with a crisp bitter bite on the front end, then a touch of sweetness, followed by a rich roastiness that persists through a delicious and wonderfully long finish. The only hint of the alcohol is a just touch of hotness combined with roasted malt acidity in my throat.
Since Iím getting more depressed by the minute that I didnít buy more when I had the chance, Iíll bump the overall
rating up a notch.
Rerating after a rich stew dinner (same day) - Espresso notes are more clear in flavor and aroma. Flavor and bitterness just ípopí from the beer and the staying power of the finish is just astonishing. Bumping overall up 2 to to 19 as I am loving the second half of this beer even more tha tthe first half!!

Excellent imperial stout. A bit lighter on the mouthfeel than I would have expected. Good appearance, strong and complex coffee/caramel malt character with a great bitterness balance.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at Yard House in a shaker glass. Pitch black with unusually creamy tan head for an imperial stout. More bitter finish than I prefer for this style, overwhelms the palate somewhat.

Bottle at tasting. Black oily pour, no head. Aroma of vanilla and chocolate. Taste of bitter chocolate, roasted malt, mild vanilla and bitters. Thick mouthfeel. Very nice.

Pours a dark, thick cola brown. Aroma is smoky with hints of coffee. Flavor is full of smoky chocolate malt. Drier than I expected. Coffee and tobacco. Definitely very good.

The best there is. Drink three of these and nightly night. Best stout on the market. Sorry Guinness. Only wish it was easier to find in Pennsylvania

North coast makes good beer, and this is no exception. Obviously, looking at its rating, Iím not alone in realizing how good this is.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
On tap at TNT Taisho opening party.
L: dark, very dark, and a big fluffy tan head that wonít quit.
S: plenty of chocolate and coffee, no real surprises here.
T: those same smells come through in the taste, along with a bitterness that feels like a strong-roasted coffee, and quality bitter dark chocolate.
F: itís quite dry and roasty, very full-bodied, yet can be drank a quite quickly, with a smoothness that keeps drawing you in for another sip.
O: excellent imperial stout that even hits the spot in the summer months.

This is a nice strong imperial, chocolaty stout, good flavor, with an okay after taste. Great aroma, and it looks like a chocolate milkshake. Great mouth feel. Overall a nice beer is happily drink again, but wouldnít seek out.
