4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Served in a Westmalle chalice for no other reason that I need to break in the glass.
Rich roasted malt & coffee nose with everything an Imperial Stout requires.
Pours a clear but nearly opaque ultra-dark brown color with a 1 finger creamy tan head that has moderate staying power. Lacing and head retention could be a touch better. The mouthfeel is creamy and robust. The flavor, a clear í10í, is the high point of this beer. It leads with a crisp bitter bite on the front end, then a touch of sweetness, followed by a rich roastiness that persists through a delicious and wonderfully long finish. The only hint of the alcohol is a just touch of hotness combined with roasted malt acidity in my throat.
Since Iím getting more depressed by the minute that I didnít buy more when I had the chance, Iíll bump the overall
rating up a notch.
Rerating after a rich stew dinner (same day) - Espresso notes are more clear in flavor and aroma. Flavor and bitterness just ípopí from the beer and the staying power of the finish is just astonishing. Bumping overall up 2 to to 19 as I am loving the second half of this beer even more tha tthe first half!!

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
A rich aroma of cocoa, coffee and a hint of chocolate. Great looking ebony color with a lasting medium head. Great taste, of cocoa and espresso with a watery feel and a bitter chalky finish.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: SEP 12, 2014 12 oz bottle from Whole Foods in Hillsboro, OR. Aroma is boozy, roasty, and sweet, with hints of licorice, chocolate, prunes, and leather. Mouthfeel is dry, with a bitter and astringent finish. The malt sugars have mostly been converted to alcohol, leaving little residual sweetness, which would have been nice to balance out the massive roasted grain bill. All in all, a damn fine beer.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured from a 12oz bottle from Whole Foods in Tanasbourne. Aroma is rich almost chocolatey. The beers pours beautiful dark and velvety. Taste is not over the top sweet. First taste is rich, but a bit chalky. Finishes sweet and very smooth. I can see why this beer has a "cult following".

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Very good aroma, amazing poor, great tan head, dark black body. A very complex taste with a warming finish, a bit sour and bitter for my taste but thatís a Russian Imperial Stout. Overall an amazing example of a Russian Imperial Stout.

4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured from the bottle of a 4-pack into a pint glass. This would make the perfect picture with its jet black bottom and nice tan collar. The taste is filthy and delicious at the same time. The 9% provides an automatic light headed feeling. Downed 3 in an hour so Iíd say itís easy drinking. I think this sets the standard for stout.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma: 6/10. Mostly hops, and sour, ashy malt.
Appearance: 5/5. Beautiful black pour with a medium tan-mocha head. Beautiful lacing.
Taste: 7/10. Sour and slightly grapefruity up front, with more sour malt and subtle coffee and subtler ashy notes.
Palate: 4/5. Nice smoothness, a little light-bodied, lingering ashiness in the mouth more than anything.
Overall: 14/20. Not my favorite russian imperial stout by far. Quite dry, not particularly sweet, very ashy, and just sort of middling all around.

Cerveja forte e saborosa. Recomendo

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Oil black pour, there was a ton of tan head on my pour but it has since disappeared and not reappeared in any head or lace form. Aroma of malt, hop, oak, coffee, espresso, chocolate. Addicting flavor much the same. Roast is inescapable. Very smooth, bitter. The transition from coffee to malt to alcohol is flawless.

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Russian Imperian Stout - now THIS is the type of beer I love. The darker, the better. This is pitch black, and pours with a brown-ish head. This even tastes dark. Iíd say it has a smoky, charcoal flavor, with some coffee/chocolate backing it up. It seems to have a lot of more mild flavors in this as well. It feels heavy, but smooth. I canít see myself drinking a lot of these, partially to the fullness of it, and partially to the 9% alcohol. The smoothness does make it hard to tell there is much alcohol in it. Overall, a delight to drink.
