4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 20/20
Opaque. Thick viscous used motor oil fresh from the pan. Burnt coffee blindsides you upon the first sip. This is followed by more java, dark chocolate... charred grains. Hints of licorice, carmel, oats-- this is not for guzzlin’. There is so much velvet on the palate that it would make the velveteen rabbit blush. Rasputin was said to have a silver tongue and this my friends is possibly the only beer he could taste. Huge taste, aroma, mouthfeel. I would recommend this to the serious beer drinker only.

355 ml bottle from Tasty Life, Xiamen. Pours black with a disappearing beige head. Roasted chocolate and hoppy aroma. Bitter sweet finish. Very nice. In the comparative beer desert of China I will be back for more of this.

4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle, many thanks to StefanSD.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours solid opaque black with a fat finger of dense beige head diminishing gradually to a thin cap, light patchy lacing (4/5). Nose is roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, liquorice, woody smoke, faint hops (8/10). Taste is mild sweet, intensely bitter with both roasted malt and grassy hops (8/10). Full creamy body, moderate carbonation, with a semi-sweet lactose-like finish (5/5).
Some distinct harshness at times, with the hops giving a suggestion of cattiness in the nose and on the tongue - but just a suggestion. Overall, it’s complex and robust, quite able to pull off the moderately high ABV. An excellent example of the style - right on par with Ten Fidy, perhaps, but not quite as decent a performer as Stone’s IRS. And yet again, Mikkeller’s Beer Geek Brunch Weasel has spoiled me for all lesser beers. (17/20)

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
330ml bottle served in a chalice.
Enjoyed in a restaurant in San Francisco.
A: Pours a deep opaque black forming a nice bubbled beige head with good retention but not much lacing left in the glass
S: Strong roasted malts but also very hoppy in the nose. Strong notes of dark chocolate, some coffee, licorice, alcohol, grassy hops and earthy yeasts
T: Follows the nose. Strong notes of roasted malts, dark chocolate, mocha and licorice. In overall, a dry and bitter taste. Bitterness is more from the roasted malts than from the hops but still a quite hoppy stout
M: Heavy and creamy body. Quite oily. Medium carbonation. Roasted aftertaste
O: Very drinkable. American masterpiece

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Not the biggest Imperial Stout fan as I gravitate toward true session bitters but this beer is always a delightful experience. It is a go to paired with many meals.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from the Grumpy Goat, Reading. Black with a thick light brown head. Sweet, heady, warming and alcoholic from the off. Lots of chocolate, port, Nutella and roasted malts. A slight ashy bitterness does counter the initial sweetness to some extent without overpowering it. Not a lot of depth to it compared to some impys, but certainly well balanced and enjoyable. Yeah, I like this, but it’s a bit of a one trick pony and doesn’t really develop anything additional over the course of the bottle. You could get bored of it in other words. And the roasted malt finish lasts so long that you do get bored of it. So... really great in Danish 30ml pint sizes, but if you’ve got a bottle it’s worth sharing it...

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
10/8/14. Bottle (2014). One of my touchstones for imperial stout. Long lasting mocha head. Wonderful burnt toffee and dark chocolate nose. Complex dark malts with the deep hop profile perfectly balanced by the alcohol.

Nitro draft at Four Points in LAX. Nice today aroma. Opaque black in color. Smooth flavor, due to the nitro. Fill bodied, but very smooth. Delicious!
