Transcendent, creamy coffee/chocolate taste with a nice kick of alcohol, this is the single best stout I’ve ever had

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Thick deep black with a thin tan head. Laces on the side of the goblet. Dense almost oily mouthfeel. Wow. Really enjoyed this. Just finished a six pack over the course of 5 years - subtly more complex as each year passed. This is a benchmark example of a RIS.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
This feels a little thin, but is relatively low ABV. Quite sweet, foamy in the mouth. Bittersweet chocolate, slight aroma of dried blood, medium malts. Boozy. Little funky fruits. Ok but not outstanding for style.

Huge light brown head with lacing that runs the length of the glass. Initial taste is creamy but then snaps to an interesting dryness on the finish. Chocolate and cherry flavors.

I don’t drink stouts that often, but when I do, I like them like this one. Dark dark dark and strongly stout, like a bitter thick coffee. Rich and intense. Drink it slow. And enjoy! 9%alc/vol

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Room temp bottle into snifter. No date, but I don’t think it’s more than 6 months old. Black, small head. A swirl brings up a big tan head. Aroma - malty, berries, sharp alcohol coming through quite strongly. Body is medium, very foamy in the mouth, carbonation is low. Taste - chocolatey, sharp and alcoholic despite the relatively low ABV for the style. I cannot conceive of why this would get such a high rating on RB. Foamy, one dimensional and with noticeable alcohol, it fails to achieve the main things I look for in an imperial stout.

From the bottle, Old Rasputin pours with a creamy head that soon settles into unique lacing. This smooth brew has a lot going on and hides its alcohol well. It recently reigned champion over 31 other beers in a march madness bracket style beer-off held by Louisville Dads Beer Club. Cellaring may only improve this fine fine brew.
