zappafan99 (256), Rock Hill, South Carolina, USA May 6, 2008 Updated: Jul 3, 2008 Very pretty pour..you should watch. Chocolate head on a black bottom.. Very fresh and refreshing going down. Fresh malt caramel, raisin, chocolate hops. Very even and fills with taste. A great brew. 2nd rating; I like. Nice hops on the tongue. Like espresso, fine coffee and great beer at the same time. Great beer : but how is it my highest rating? This isn’t the best beer I’ve tasted...is it? What would be a 5 then?
craftycarl21 (135), USA Jul 27, 2008 motor oil black pour with a beautiful brown head- looks phenomenal. the nose is luxurious- dark and bitter chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, and a woody quality. Flavor is absolutely from another planet- not as assaulting as some impys, but so incredibly delicious and smooth that it actually surpasses such bellicose beers. the start of the sip is smooth, and you wonder how it’s going to hit you; it follows with a robust but oh so gentle encapsulation of the tongue, providing enriching flavors. chocolate and coffee dominate, but the whole experience must be tasted to be fully understood. palate is wondrous- just enough sweetness sticks to leave you pining for the next gulp. extraordinary, so worth it’s top notch rating. ceffalo (2), , Texas, USA does not count Jul 22, 2008 Truly a tremendous beer. Rich, foamy dark tan head over a nice black color liquid. Great roasted malt flavor with a slight dark chocolate taste. Strong beer, warm going down. Not too bitter. The overall effect is just right. This beer can’t be beaten. ansermadide (161), Kyle, Texas, USA Jul 22, 2008 (Sample from November 17, 2006 Beer Club Meeting; 12oz bottle at home with weeAnaP) Insane thick head that resembles a hefty pancake… popping bubbles and all. Love the color of Rasputin’s head! Great lacing that holds the entire height of the glass. Black color with deep mohogany at the edge of the glass. Strong, intense woody roasted malt… musky. Manly. Taste is bitter, strong, somewhat creamy. Aftertaste is of spicy hops and malt, just at the back of the nose. One of my favorites. AOF (277), Naperville, Illinois, USA Jul 20, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours thick and midnight black. Nice creamy mocha head. Big stout aromas:dark chocolate, roasted malt, black coffee. Smooth and drinkable with a slight hop finish. Very good. fishingnet (737), Brandon, Florida, USA Jul 20, 2008 Nitro Tap at Oldsmar Tap House. Pours black with a large cascading tan head that leaves great lacing. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, tons of coffee, and a hint of caramel. Taste is strong roasted coffee, bitter chocolate, roasted malt, and a hint of caramel. Full creamy mouthfeel with a moderate to strong amount of bitterness and smooth alcohol. Very good.
