Produced in the tradition of 18th Century English brewers who supplied the court of Russia’s Catherine the Great, Old Rasputin seems to develop a cult following wherever it goes. It’s a rich, intense brew with big complex flavors and a warming finish.

The Old Rasputin brand image is a drawing of Rasputin with a phrase in Russian encircling it—A sincere friend is not born instantly.

12 oz bottle. Poured a deep, rich brown with a thick tan head. Nearly opaque. Aroma was toasty, with a slight sweetness (toffee?). Flavor was similar, dominated by toast and toffee, but with some coffee notes as well. There is a definite alcoholic fruitiness to it that is not present in other stouts. Palate was thick, as expected. Overall a very interesting brew, something I intend on coming back to.

Excellent imperial stout. A bit lighter on the mouthfeel than I would have expected. Good appearance, strong and complex coffee/caramel malt character with a great bitterness balance.

Draft at Yard House in a shaker glass. Pitch black with unusually creamy tan head for an imperial stout. More bitter finish than I prefer for this style, overwhelms the palate somewhat.

Pours a dark, thick cola brown. Aroma is smoky with hints of coffee. Flavor is full of smoky chocolate malt. Drier than I expected. Coffee and tobacco. Definitely very good.

The best there is. Drink three of these and nightly night. Best stout on the market. Sorry Guinness. Only wish it was easier to find in Pennsylvania
