COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, intense brew with a robust palate, a fruity nose and a warming finish. Very complex.

Dermis (20) - Monona, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 18, 2004
This beer is high in alchohol and chocolate. Short lived bite of hoppiness gets renewed with every sip. Very smooth but a bit on the thin side. Sits quietly in the glass with no bubbles. Muddy brown and glows ruby in the right light. Comes close to overwhelming the malts and hops at the end. A stout with presence.

Pours black with low tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, molasses, muscovado, dark dried fruit. Taste is chocolate and coffee, big bitter finish. Light to medium creamy body. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Huge light brown head with lacing that runs the length of the glass. Initial taste is creamy but then snaps to an interesting dryness on the finish. Chocolate and cherry flavors.

I don’t drink stouts that often, but when I do, I like them like this one. Dark dark dark and strongly stout, like a bitter thick coffee. Rich and intense. Drink it slow. And enjoy! 9%alc/vol

Room temp bottle into snifter. No date, but I don’t think it’s more than 6 months old. Black, small head. A swirl brings up a big tan head. Aroma - malty, berries, sharp alcohol coming through quite strongly. Body is medium, very foamy in the mouth, carbonation is low. Taste - chocolatey, sharp and alcoholic despite the relatively low ABV for the style. I cannot conceive of why this would get such a high rating on RB. Foamy, one dimensional and with noticeable alcohol, it fails to achieve the main things I look for in an imperial stout.

From the bottle, Old Rasputin pours with a creamy head that soon settles into unique lacing. This smooth brew has a lot going on and hides its alcohol well. It recently reigned champion over 31 other beers in a march madness bracket style beer-off held by Louisville Dads Beer Club. Cellaring may only improve this fine fine brew.

I had one of these a couple of years back and thought it was ok. Then several months ago, I tasted Ten Fidy by Oscar Blues. Ten Fidy has become my standard now for RIS brews. I would drink the Old Rasputin again if offered but given a choice of this or the TF, the TF wins hands down.

Dark color with a tan head. Aroma is roasted, coffee, chocolate and some hops. Coffee is predominant in taste with a bitter finish and a hint if alcohol. Good to try it just once. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Terrific beer! Great dark color and frothy head with amazingly inviting creamy lacing. Not an overwhelming aroma but distinct, and a terrific chocolate and coffee flavor.

Earthy with heavy notes of the best, most well-rounded coffee/americano/espresso I’ve ever had. Nutty/almondy/ gourmet-chocolate-y malt. Smooth body. Extraordinarily pleasant after taste and when frothed in the mouth. Strangely bright finish despite all the heaviness.

12 oz bottle. The beer pours to a deep pitch black color with a medium tan head. The aroma has coffee, roasted malt, some dark fruit & espresso. The taste is similar with a roasty almost smokey taste to it. Overall a great Russian Stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
