COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Produced in the tradition of 18th Century English brewers who supplied the court of Russia’s Catherine the Great, Old Rasputin seems to develop a cult following wherever it goes. It’s a rich, intense brew with big complex flavors and a warming finish.

The Old Rasputin brand image is a drawing of Rasputin with a phrase in Russian encircling it—A sincere friend is not born instantly.

Pours black as sack-cloth with a nice tight chocolate/milky head. Great mouthfeel - nothing oily here - exceptionally well balanced with a great bitter finish. Bravo.

Draft Nitro: Poured Black with a long lasting fluffy tan head. Aroma molasses roasted barley. Taste Sweet malty molasses with a bitterness of the roasted barley. The heat from the abv was hidden.

Poured from a 12 oz into a tulip on 01.19.15. A: Cocoa, chocolate, and dark fruit. It’s a chocolate bomb. A: 3 finger very fluffy tan head with an easy pour and had to stop mid-bottle. Needless to say, the head is retained very well. Midnight black body with no red in the glass. T: Cocoa and a coffee sting of bitterness are dominant. Coffee grounds, roastiness, raisin, and fig are subtle. P: Creamy smooth, and crisp from bubbles on the back end. It leans toward medium chewiness. O: Like Narwhal, I didn’t like this one when I had it last year. Palates can change, though. There is a slight sting on the back end that lingers, but it’s tolerable.

This has been one of my favorites for 5-6 years, always from a bottle and poured. It ’s been available year around in Illinois for the last 18 months or so. There are no surprises here. This beer is black, thick and frothy, with a ton of flavor. Coffee, molasses, cocoa, barley, it has it all and it kicks butt too. Today I had it on tap at Mackey’s Hideout. Everything I’ve always enjoyed about this beer was just a whole lot better. It’s not the perfect beer for all occasions, but it’s damn close.

A really solid Russian Imperial Stout but somehow the version by Courage has a tastier blend.

This beer was big and strong, in his eyes a flaming glow. Most people look at it with terror and with fear, but to Ratebeer chicks it was such a lovely beer.

bottle @ home. Appearance: pours clear dark brown with ok off-white creamy head with good acing. aroma/taste: caramel, chocolate, coffee, wood and hints of citrus notes. palette: medium carbonation, full body, notable caramel sweetness, average to distinct bitterness, dry finish, long duration and an oily texture. Overall: nice tasteful stout that just lingers

Wittales (660) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - JAN 12, 2015
Appearance was opaque with mocha diminishing creamy 1 finger head, no lacing. Aromas are roasted black malt, coffee, molasses, chocolate, licorice and soft alcohol heat. Taste are soft chocolate, coffee upfront then soft licorice with roasted barley bitterness backend, alcohol well hidden. Palate was soft CO2 with lasting oily slick full body, then roasty bitter finish. Overall a solid RIS, could used more creamy CO2 and chocolate malts.

A full-flavored imperial stout with notes of chocolate and coffee. Finishes with a slightly burnt / smoky flavor that isn’t unpleasant, but is not to my liking in this style.

Very opaque dark pour with thin, clingy brown head. Aroma is heavily roasted and coffee notes. Incredibly smooth with barely noticible alcohol - remarkable given the content. Instead, flavors are strongly parrallel to aromas - again with coffee and roasted maltiness. This is delicious. One of my favorites amongst my favorite style.
