Seems hard to believe that weíve been making Old Rasputin for 10 years now, but thatís whatís happened. And, to celebrate the occasion, weíve brewed a special small batch thatís been aged for 9 months in some 12 year-old bourbon barrels. Itís bottled in 500 ml bottles with a cork and wired finish and a special commemorative label ---- and itís amazing. The depth, intensity and complexity of the flavor profile make it a worthy tribute to this fine beer.

This entry is for all anniversary Bourbon BA Old Rasputin releases.

Flaske: Kulsort olieret Ýl med masser af gardiner pŚ glasset. Duften er velintegreret bourbon med en smule molasse. Smagen er meget lśkker men en anelse tynd til sidst. Derfor den ikke kommer helt op og ringe. Men yderst lśkker Ýl.

6oz draft at pinebox for $6 ($5 on happy hour!). Listed as XV, but Iím guessing itís 17? Finally found this at a price Iím willing to pay. Black pour with huge creamy khaki head. Good lacing and retention. Aroma brings chocolate, dark fruit, berries. Roast is present but isnít overpowering. Creamy milk chocolate. Taste: harsher than expected. Some chocolate, harsh roast bitterness, coffee. As it warms some berry/fruit comes through which cuts the astringency that was there when cold. Palate: medium-full body, somewhat thinner than expected. Chalky texture. Average+ carbonation. Finish is roasty and astringent. Overall:glad to finally try it, but glad I didnít shell out the cash for a bottle (or the ridiculous $19 8oz pour at another place in town).

XV: dense black, poor head and lace. Cocoa and dark chocolate. Creamy, mocha, roast. Not burnt. Great lift. Hint of hops. Dry to if dry. Balanced bitterness and not sour. Creamy milky palate. Great weight and balance. This is a bloody good beer. With more stout under the belt Iíll push this up. Appearance also pushed it down.

XVI. Good tar roast nose on opening. Initial easy loose head to start before disappearing to something mire whispy. Some fizz on the tongue and relatively thin bodied for a beer of this style and gravity. Bourbon is noticeable but very well integrated adding a very pleasant almost morish quality to the beer. Good raisin like prune fruit in there too.

Maybe the most expensive beer Iíve had. $20+ for just a 500mL (16.9oz) bottle! Letís see what weíve got here. Pours a very dark black with massive brown head and great lacing. Aroma is woody, nutty, chocolatey bourbon. Maybe a little dark fruit in there. This aroma is a little more aggressive and rough-edged than some of the other BA Imperial Stout kings. Itís nice, but it needs a little more cocoa or coffee perhaps to counter the lactose and vanilla sweetness. Taste is similar with lots of sweet vanilla bourbon up front, into a very slight drying bitterness in the middle, some licorice in there, finishing with some noticeable booze, but subdued for 12.1%. Palate is smooth, creamy, slippery. Overall the barrel aging is too heavy handed. I miss the depth of the original, and for the price per ounce, Surly Darkness (among others) is a much better deal. I try not to let price influence my ratings, but I can readily find at least ten barrel-aged beers in this same class for literally half the price.

Bottle. Bourbon, coffee, and chocolate malt aroma. Oily black with minimal head. Sweet chocolate malt, bourbon, and moderately bitter herbal ash flavor. Boozy bourbon finish.

Year XIV. Pours black with a thin head. Dark bread aroma and some dark fruit dark cocoa notes. Very silky and creamy smooth flavor has a bit of holiday spice and dark german bread hints. Overall, an awesome brew! Thanks to dandman629 for his extreme patience and willpower in sharing this with me!

500 ml bottle. Pours almost black with a layer of dark brown near the fluffy dark khaki head. Initial scent is bourbon with vanilla and star anise. Old Rasputin is the standard for Imperial Stout, so barrel aging it just adds complexity to the flavor. The base stout with cocoa and roasted flavors is there. On top of it is bourbon, vanilla, almost a root beer, and currant. The palate is full bubbly creamy with a finish of bitter. Excellent, but a little pricey for a pint bottle.

Bomber: (XVII Vintage) Pours black with a short, thick, light brown head. Bourbon, chocolate, aged wood aroma. Licorice, chocolate, ash, vanilla, burnt sugar flavours.... Woody, roasty, dark fruit, more and more creamy vanilla as it heats up.... Very smooth....excellent....stupidly expensive, but excellent.
