Commercial Description:
As a continuation of North Coast Brewing Co.’s commitment to quality, our Old Stock Ale is crafted in the tradition of our critically acclaimed Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale and Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. It’s brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so it’s a beer to be served proudly. Like a fine wine, North Coast’s Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round-out and mellow with age. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale is a vintage dated ale. We produce a small quantity each year and it remains available from release date until our stock is depleted.

pre-2006 ABV: 11.4%.
2006 vintages: 11.6% & 13.25%.
2007 vintage: 11.7%.
2008 vintage: 12.5%.

Bottle from Mega Liquor Warehouse... Pours dark mahogany with a thin head..Smell is dark fruits and alcohol...Flavor is caramel and rassberries with a lingering bitterness.. Tons of carbonation.. Good candidate to put in the closet (or a barrel) and forget about.

(bottle - 12 oz - 2008 vintage) Dark copper color with a creamy tan head. Aroma is big and sweet. Tons of sweet malts with a nice hop undertone. Flavor is sweet and malty at the start with a strong alcohol bite. Middle is very malty with some hints of caramel. Finishes with a strong and burning alcohol presence and some bitter hops. Extremely potent. This one could take some good aging.

Clearish maroon with absolutely no head whatsoever. Very very sweet, without any hops to balance the malt. Not much of a finish. Pass.

Nice aroma of bread and sweet. Cloudy dark amber with a nice head. Flavor was sweet molasses with an alcohol bite. Finish was crisp and clean. My bottle was dated 2007. I’m going to have one more and let the other two age a year or so.

On tap at the Vintage Estates, nice place. Not much aroma, does not come across as volatile. Color is darker than a lager, more brown or orange in there. Strong, almost like smoother whisky in flavor. Decent carbonation for a barley wine. For 12+ abv, this stuff hides the alky well. Medicinal at times. I think I’m getting dizzy. Finish is somewhat cough medicine linger. One of the smotther barley wines I’ve had.

Source: 12 oz bottle purchased at Vine and Barrel in Hixson, TN.
Glass: Poured into a snifter.
Appearance: Hazy dark orange pour with a half finger of tan head that quickly dissipated.
Aroma: Sweet malt, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, alcohol and dark fruit. Complex but not disjointed.
Flavor: Heavy molasses and brown sugar, with toffee and caramel popcorn. Earthy bitter finish. Plenty of warming alcohol, but not abrasive.
Palate: Surprisingly clean mouthfeel, though a bit chewy, medium/full body and good carbonation .
Overall: Really liked this. Haven’t had a good experience with some of the recent barley wines I’ve tried, but this is excellent.
