crowderm (271), Recklinghausen, Germany May 5, 2009 2007. Reddish brown pour, no head. Aroma of bourbon, caramel and burnt sugar. Flavor is a bit sweeter than the aroma. More caramel, dark candied fruit, a hint of booze, brown sugar. Nice thick mouthfeel. Goes down pretty smooth considering the ABV. Good brew. lweiberg (89), Eagan, Minnesota, USA May 4, 2009 Pretty excellent, hints of bourbon and packs plenty o’ buzz. Quite different from the Victory and Sierra Nevada barleywines. Feels a tad hollow but satisfying nonetheless. VTHopHead (889), Barre, Vermont, USA May 3, 2009 Bottle (2008 vintage) - My 800th Ratebeer rating - Poured a dark reddish brown in color with a medium thick tan head that hung in and produced some good lacing on the glass. Aroma is malty and slightly sweet. Elements of caramel, toffee, roasted malts and some alcohol. Flavor was complex... caramel malt, some hops and some dark fruitiness. Alcohol definitely apparent, but not overpowering (until finished). Quite thick palate. An excellent barley wine... sayravai (3718), Helsinki, Finland May 3, 2009 (Bottled, 2005 vintage) Very dark ruby brown with a small, firm and beige head. Aroma of sweet, caramely malt, dried and fresh fruit, warming alcohol, anise, some hop bitterness. Dark-fruity, very malty flavor with caramel, pale toffee, anise, some aromatic hops, light roastiness. Alcohol perfectly hidden. Velvety-smooth and thick palate, full body, low carbonation. Delicious, thick and full-bodied, smooth, balanced, not too sweet barley wine. noompa (130), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 2, 2009 On tap @ Flossmoor Station. Already have 3 bottles (2007) of this beauty aging in my closet. Only American Barley Wine I truly like. Ruby red color, dried leathery fruit and oak woody-ness...very chewy and complex. BgThang (118), Texas, USA Apr 26, 2009 This poured a nice dark amber brownish color
Had a nice small head on it that lingered around till the end.
THe nose was that of candy, boozy, and malty.
Did not know anything about this beer, was new on tap so i tried it. It will kick you in the pants @13+% its definitely a sipper beer. has some good notes of candy but their is a alcoholy taste to it, hence the sipping part.
This warms the gullet up nicely also

Dark fruits and sweet malts in the aroma, with the 2007 bottle bringing much more complex fruit notes. Flavor wise, the 2007 bottle seems a bit more mellowed out, with not as much of a boozy presence as the 2008 bottle. Sweet malts, dark fruits and a light lingering bitterness. Again, the 2007 bottle has a bit more complexity and is slightly more drinkable. Both vintages are very good, but the 2007 definitely wins out. 2007 = 8/4/8/4/15. 2008 = 7/4/7/4/14 CapnCascade (116), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Apr 20, 2009 Dark copper, moderate tan head with little retention and no lacing. Aroma is heavy in yeast and caramel, flavour has tree fruit and bread, some caramel, not particularly complex though it hides its alcohol to some extent. Moderately creamy mouthfeel with low carbonation. Not bad, not great.
