Commercial Description:
As a continuation of North Coast Brewing Co.’s commitment to quality, our Old Stock Ale is crafted in the tradition of our critically acclaimed Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale and Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. It’s brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so it’s a beer to be served proudly. Like a fine wine, North Coast’s Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round-out and mellow with age. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale is a vintage dated ale. We produce a small quantity each year and it remains available from release date until our stock is depleted.

2006 vintages: 11.6% & 13.25%.

Sweet aroma and dark brown to amber color. Drinks smooth with a little sweetness and a fruity flavor. Not easy to tell this is an 11.6% ABV.

poured this 2008 into a snifter, a dark caramel with a small tan head, good lacing.
smell of burnt toffee, roasted nuts, some berry, some cocoa.
taste is thick, nuts, toffee, malt, touch of cocoa, oily finish, as it warms becomes more smooth.

2004 vintage. Dark ruby color. Tan head with lasting carbonation. Aroma is sweet and sticky like pomegranates. Flavor is spicy sweet chocolate with intense alcohol warmth. Good beer, but not worth the price.

2007 vintage. pour is mid amber with almost no head. aroma is sweet, somewhat spicy. flavor is sweet, hot alcohol. probably would be better after another year in the cellar, but who has that kind of patience?

2008: Pours a beautiful amber/brown with a small yellowish head. Very malty aroma, caramel, brown sugar, a little vanilla, and roasted espresso. Initial flavor is delicious caramel malts and sticky sweet, but then it transitions to an herbal, light hop finish that’s a little clashing. Maybe I can be patient and hold a bottle of this for a year or two. Good base, just needs some age I think.

Bottle from Kegs & Barrels. Pours a clear deep red with beige head. Aroma of cantalop and dark fruit with very obvious alcohol. Flavor is, well, similar to Southern Comfort whisky, black licorice and is sweet. Mouthfeel is full with low-medium carbonation. Overall this one will warm you up, I am glad I drank it. I can tell this is a very good barely wine, but aroma & flavor just didn’t work for me....Im into strong beers, I just do not care much for aroma’s and flavor’s of cantalop, southern comfort, and black licorice. But I will stick to the ratings guidlines. This is a good strong beer, and I believe it accomplished what it was made for, I just do not care for it.

2006 vintage 11.6abv. Strong malt aroma with a little softwood fragrances. Cloudy dark brown color with a medium dark tan head. Light bitter and moderate malts in the beginning with the finish getting sweet then mild alcohol burn in the very end that lasts.
