Commercial Description:
As a continuation of North Coast Brewing Co.’s commitment to quality, our Old Stock Ale is crafted in the tradition of our critically acclaimed Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale and Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. It’s brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so it’s a beer to be served proudly. Like a fine wine, North Coast’s Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round-out and mellow with age. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale is a vintage dated ale. We produce a small quantity each year and it remains available from release date until our stock is depleted.

2008 vintage, this beer is amazing. I would love to try an older bottle. The alcohol is hidden well and the flavor is just phenomenal. Loads of complexity.Very sweet taste. I could drink this beer everyday. Definite buy again

Bottle-Memphis. COMPLEX!!! The malt flavor/nose is almost overwhelming but the hops take over once it reaches the palate. This one should be aged. Unfortunately I have not learned the pasiance...

My original bottles from ’07. The aroma has taken something of a dirty note. The harsher flavors have by now become better integrated. Scratch that, this is still pretty rough. Still a lot of punch. Good none the less. I’m gonna dock a 1/10 of a point.

Deep reddish color. Sweet malty aroma, maple syrup and berries, alcohol. Very firm bodied. Cherry cough medicine flavor (tylenol), stiff woodsy hops. Lots of earthy and berry flavors. Quite impressive even though I’m not a huge fan of the style.

2004 Bottle Pours a clear ruby orange with a thin soapy mocha head. Aroma is dark fruit, toffee, caramel, and some earthiness. Taste is very smooth, with sugar, toffee, with a hint of whiskey or bourbon. A very easy-drinking mellow BW. I’d have to try a fresher vintage to compare but I’m guessing some of the hops and bourbon notes have mellowed over the years. Not sure if I prefer this over the Bigfoot. The Bigfoot has some bite and hop complexity, but this is definetely easier to drink and very warming.

Bottle, 2007. Pours a dark red-orange with small beige head. The aroma is rich raisin, whiskey, tons of earth, some faint notes of decomposing fruit and smoke. The flavor is rich raisin and fruit in the front of the mouth, followed by an intense sugary sweetness on top of lots of earth and wood. The finish is woody and alcoholic, and really does give the impression of a smooth whisky. Very warm, lingering aftertaste. Not bad.

Served just lightly chilled into a tumbler from a 12 oz bottle. This is one that with age would probably mellow out to be really exceptional. Pours a beuatiful garnet with little but bautiful head and low carbonation. Aroma is strong of alchol, cognac like with notes of fruit and vanilla. The taste really smacks you in the face, and for whatever reason despite being far from the highest ABV beer I’ve had this one I really felt. Not like I drank it very fast either. When drinking it you get that typical barley wine flavor of wine and malt with hints of vanilla. Very well balanced here. Warms nicely on the way down, slightly thick in the mouth but in a sensible way. A very very good but powerful barley wine that surely will be exceptional with more aging.
