Commercial Description:
As a continuation of North Coast Brewing Co.’s commitment to quality, our Old Stock Ale is crafted in the tradition of our critically acclaimed Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale and Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. It’s brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so it’s a beer to be served proudly. Like a fine wine, North Coast’s Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round-out and mellow with age. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale is a vintage dated ale. We produce a small quantity each year and it remains available from release date until our stock is depleted.

pre-2006 ABV: 11.4%.
2006 vintages: 11.6% & 13.25%.
2007 vintage: 11.7%.
2008 vintage: 12.5%.

On tap at Flying Saucer. Has a very dark ruby color with a thick off white head. The aroma is sweet hops and caramel. Very good lacing on the glass. The taste was syrupy with a lot of alcohol. A good barley wine from North Coast

Red color with a decent head. Aroma is of brown sugar, caramel, and maple. Strong in alcoholic content. Complex flavor with notes of caramel. I had the 2006 vintage and the added alcohol was definetly evident, but I found that very pleasing with the feeling it left.

Aroma is strong and malty with a touch of salt and a hint of caramel. It pours a lovely clear brown with a fairly thick, if not persistent, head. Flavor is malty and sweet, and has a nice alcohol zing to it. Finish is smooth but with a strong alcohol bite.

2-10-08 tap (2007 brew)
Deep maroon-amber-brown in color with a thin filmy off white head. Smell is sweet and hoppy and quite pleasant. Flavor is nice and very sweet. The sweetness nearly coats the tongue. It is thick and not syrupy at all. Drinkable and flavorful. Nice palate - nothing too special though. Alcohol is present, without a doubt, but overall a good brew!

2007 bottle. Deep amber pour with lasting creamy head. Nice cascade of carbonation. Great lace. Dark fruit and sweet malt on the nose. Big alcohol presence in taste. Sweet malt and a whiff of hops. Medium mouthfeel. Good but would expect much better after some age tones down the heat.

Fresh 2007 on tap. Pours a rich maroonish color with a small offwhite head. Smell is mainly alcohol and light maltiness with an almost faint skunkiness to it, somehow. Prickly, boozy mouthfeel, with flavors of alcohol, hops, and somewhat dry. Decent flavor and drinkable, but I can see this being a lot better with some age, and look forward to trying some older bottles.
