Commercial Description:
As a continuation of North Coast Brewing Co.’s commitment to quality, our Old Stock Ale is crafted in the tradition of our critically acclaimed Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale and Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. It’s brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so it’s a beer to be served proudly. Like a fine wine, North Coast’s Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round-out and mellow with age. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale is a vintage dated ale. We produce a small quantity each year and it remains available from release date until our stock is depleted.

pre-2006 ABV: 11.4%.
2006 vintages: 11.6% & 13.25%.
2007 vintage: 11.7%.

On tap at Teresa’s Next Door. Pours a hazy brown with a bunch of ruby red/ amber notes and a medium bubbly/creamy off white head. Aroma of a ton of dark fruits, some caramel, toffee, some toasted notes, hints of vanilla and some earthy notes. Flavor of dark fruits, some nice hop notes, toasted malt, dry, toffee and nuts.

12 oz. bottle. 2007 vintage. Pours a murky, muddy brown. Thin white head that goes away pretty quickly. Aroma of sweet caramel and warming alcohol. First sip is sweet sugars, some roasted notes. As the beer opens up, it gets a bit bitter. The finish is of very strong alcohol and will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. Look forward to cellaring this for a couple of years.

12 oz 2007 vintage. Poured a fiery burgundy red. Lack luster appearance. Nose is sweet with dark fruits - mostly plum. Flavor is much the same - lots of plum, caramel, oak, spices, and a huge blast of warming alcohol. Very hot brew...tastes scotch like. Full bodied and easily chewy. VERY warming... a fireside and snifter type brew. Enjoyable - but to me, nothing mind shattering.

2007 Bottle from Ty. Pours a dark red almost purple. Not much of a head after a few minutes. The aroma is really fruity and yeasty perhaps. Reminded me of a Belgian strong ale. The taste is similar; dark fruit, raisins, a great alcohol bite, bitter hops, some spice and a sweet sugary favor. Really great Barley Wine.

2001 Bottle - I haven’t done many of these but here it goes: This aged remarkabley well. I bought a bunch of these and have been opening them every year, this continues to get better. The aroma is ok a little malty and nutty, but the appearance is great, translucent caramel brown with a very thin head. The flavor is very mild and smooth with a scotch-malt warmth to it. Great lightly sweet, roasty malt feel as well. The alcohol warmth is there, but not at all overpowering. As the beer warms the caramel flavor really jumps out at you. Outstanding!

2003 bottling. Has a mahogany hue with a thin , off white head. Strong caramel raison smell. Lightly carbonated with a syrupy mouthfeel . The flavor is of sticky sweet malts and raisons. Has an interesting spice - alcohol taste to finish. This brew tastes better on the cold side; a strong alcohol taste lowers the drinkability Feb 2004
