Commercial Description:
As a continuation of North Coast Brewing Co.’s commitment to quality, our Old Stock Ale is crafted in the tradition of our critically acclaimed Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale and Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. It’s brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so it’s a beer to be served proudly. Like a fine wine, North Coast’s Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round-out and mellow with age. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale is a vintage dated ale. We produce a small quantity each year and it remains available from release date until our stock is depleted.

Bottle. 2007 vintage. Sweet, spicy aroma. Lots of caramel malt, spicy hops, candy sugar and dry yeast. Pours dark amber with a big off-white head. Flavor is very spicy. Lots of hops but yet balanced nicely by some sweet sticky malt. Would like to see what this does with a couple of years on it. Good, but a tad rough around the edges now.

Bottle, 2007. Poured with almost no head. The smell definitely reveals the alcohol content. Body is a really beautiful amber color, with literally no lacing. Very very smooth for how high the ABV is, almost fruity, very sweet. Very impressive, in my opinion, for how high the alcohol content is and how well it is masked in the flavor. Very subtle.

really nice barleywine. Alcohol is extremely well masked! Pours a carmel shade of amber with nice white head and some moderate lacing. Big malt all over well balanced for 2007

01 Nov 07, BW Tasting. We did a 6 year Vertical (2002-2007) of this beer, Thanks to TBC. Deep Garnet color. Big malt, sweet, creamy body. The 2004 seemed to be just right in the balance. NOTE TO SELF, age for three years for best results.

12oz Bottle 07 Pours out a murkey brown topped with a small tan head. A nice sweet aroma of light brown sugar. More sweetness on the tast a little bitterness at the end and a little dry. Pretty good BW

I sampled the 2007 vintage. It poured a dark brown color with a thin, off-white head. The aroma was a wonderful mixture of coffee, brown sugar, chocolate, and caramel. The taste was almost all malt with the above flavors, and almost no discernable hop flavors. With the high alcohol content and the very sweet flavors, this ale was almost too intense for me right now. This is a brew that should mellow out and improve with age.

From 12 oz bottle (2007)- poured semi-transparent amber, nice lacing head, aroma of sweetness (honey, glucose), very appealing. Hits the mouth with a medium sweet body that carries through to the finish, which ends with a slight touch of hops. Very drinkable- possibly addicting.

bottle (2007).....appearance: muddy dark brown with a thin ivory head....aroma: sweet candied brown sugar and caramel malts....taste: sweet, honey, long lasting sugar sensation that is light on the caramel. medium bodied mouth feel with a good level of carbonation. this didn’t taste too hot for me as others have suggested nor did i feel like there was a hop presence at all....a very nice barleywine and looking forward to a vertical of this some years down the road.
