BustedFlat (552), Edina, Minnesota, USA Jul 14, 2007 12 ounce bottle - 2006. Cloudy brown with no head. Aroma was dark fruit and alcohol. There was a big alcohol bite up front with notes of prune and grapefruit. Bitteness kicks in as it warms.
jason (1620), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 13, 2007 2005 Bottle. Thanks to mcbackus for sending me this one. Pours a cloudy dull brown body with thin head. Aroma is pleasing the sences - "aahhhhhh! That’s what a barleywine should smell like". Figs, plums, sweet malt, molasses, caramel all intertangle in my nose. Flavor has a nice smoke to it, sweet malt, low hops, dried fruit and caramel. A very nice sipping beer/cigar beer. rmalloy (195), los angeles, California, USA Jul 9, 2007 Very strong barley wine. Lots and lots of candied fruit. One-dimensional (in this candied fruit kind of way). The syrupy fruit gets boring after a while. lgklotet (420), Singapore, Singapore Jul 1, 2007 2006 vintage, sampled mid 2007. Will North Coast ever brew something that isn’t outstanding? Sweet chewy delicious malts dominate this behemoth of a beer. The aroma is filled with dried fruits, caramel and raisin. Taste is very complex - lotsa stuff going on here. And at 13,25 ABV, well.. that’s very well masked. Incredible, I love North Coast! nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jun 30, 2007 Updated: Sep 25, 20082007 vintage bottle. Pours clear, deep copper with some crimson tint. Medium head dissipates quickly, leaving little lacing. Aroma is rich caramel, dark fruits, and spicy alcohol. Flavor is initially malt and alcohol with some nice balance from fruit and herb hops, finishing with a nice winter warmer alcohol burn. Palate is alcohol-hop tingly with a mostly smooth, medium-heavy body. Good, but I will let the next one age and mellow a bit as recommended. dchmela (1406), Orlando, Florida, USA Jun 28, 2007 07 Vintage. Pour out brown and cloudy with a small white head. Chocolate, carmel, molasses and some hops in the nose. Taste has espresso, carmel and hops. Thick and chewy with a little bit of carbonation. Each years vintage seams to bring out new flavors. If you can let one sit and age, the flavors are amazing. I just can’t be that patient. RiverHorse (454), New Jersey, USA Jun 27, 2007 Vintage 2006. Pours a light brown color with a small tan head. Not much in the way of lacing on the snifter. The scent was very strong alcohol, spice, malt and carmel. The taste was more sweet than anything else. Very tasty with some molasses and raisin coming through in the finish. This one has been cellared for a while and it seems to have mellowed the sweetness. Dsnutz (71), dallas, Texas, USA Jun 25, 2007 12 oz. 2007 pours a dark cloudy red with almost no head. This has become one of my favorite weekly purchases. even stored one away til 2008.
