COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As a continuation of North Coast Brewing Co.’s commitment to quality, our Old Stock Ale is crafted in the tradition of our critically acclaimed Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale and Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. It’s brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so it’s a beer to be served proudly. Like a fine wine, North Coast’s Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round-out and mellow with age. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale is a vintage dated ale. We produce a small quantity each year and it remains available from release date until our stock is depleted.

2005 edition. 12 fl oz. brown bottle from HogTownHarry, thanks man! Deep rusty brown colour, sparse layer of bubbles cover the surface. Aroma is rich sweet dark malts with touches of raisin, toffee and brown sugar, a bit rummy. Very malty taste, more toffee, alcohol is present but is not overpowering. Some hoppy aftertaste with warming alcohol. Full body, slightly sticky, very softly carbonated.

June 2009. Clearish maroon with absolutely no head whatsoever. Very very sweet, without any hops to balance the malt. Not much of a finish. Pass.

Pours a redish brown body with a thin head. Aroma of syrup. Rich taste of syrup and bread. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle 0,33l. Vintage 2014. Pours an amber brown colour with a slight haze, one finger head that diminish. Aromas of caramelized malts, ripe fruit and alcohol. Ripe fruit flavors accompanied by raisin and bourbon, caramel malt and faint grassy hops. Full bodied, minimal carbonation, oily texture and a sweetness in the finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle in a hotel room in Las Vegas. Clear amber pour, thin white head. Aroma of spicy caramel malts, some alcoholic brandy and slightly earthy. Flavor is quite warming, spicy and a bit of red wine, some wood and quite earthy. Strange brew at first, but likable after a few sips.

#100 Barley WIne. 355 ml. bottle split by 3 @ “Memorabel Tastingkje”. Thanks to tderoeck! 2013 Vintage. GUSHER. Foam still rising from the bottle after we lost a fare share of it. Spare head, lightly hazy amber brown beer. Getting the usual barley wine notes in the nose, toffee, dried, fruit, caramel etc. but feels a bit thin & herbal. Taste is muted and bit thin molasses, cereal, toffee, dried fruits with some leather, broth, prunes, butterscotch leading into a thin, metallic, lightly herbal finish. Little carbonation, this one didn’t feel all right, disappointing, prob. a lesser bottle. Only beer that I didn’t really care for in an otherwise great tasting, oh well, it happens, glad I dot to try this one all the same.

I didn’t like much about this beer. It was my first Barley Wine and I obviosly don’t get the style. I guess if you like the style, you’ll like this well enough.

Bottled. Pours brown with a small light brown head. Smells very nutty, caramell malt. Tastes alcohol, nutty, roasted malt, a bit cheese with a nutty dry mild bitter finish.

Bottle of 2014. Wow, it’s all here: fruity esters, dried fruit, caramel, molasses, toffee, treacle, with just the perfect amount of winey character. Beautifully balanced American barley wine style, with a long, long finish. Made in more of a traditional English barley wine style (meaning little or no hop profile) rather than in an American barley wine style (higher hop profile). Overall, a great English barley wine made by Americans!
