As a continuation of North Coast Brewing Co.’s commitment to quality, our Old Stock Ale is crafted in the tradition of our critically acclaimed Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale and Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. It’s brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so it’s a beer to be served proudly. Like a fine wine, North Coast’s Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round-out and mellow with age. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale is a vintage dated ale. We produce a small quantity each year and it remains available from release date until our stock is depleted.

2012 vintage. Pours a rich copper color with a finger of eggshell colored foam. The nose is full and layered. Nice toffee, caramel and straw. The palate follows nicely with a little more complexity. Dark fruits mingle with boozy soft sherry notes and brown sugar. Nice bitterness creeps in on the backend.

Bottle: Poured a mahogany brown with a thin beige head. Aroma is sticky malts, figs, dark fruit, sweet warm feeling. Taste is strong dark fruit, sweet malts, and nice light alcohol burn.

Drank from a bottle at a bar. Really strong beer. The taste is a bit sweet. Not as good as I expected.

33cl bottle, vintage 2012. Mahogany color, thin white head. Toffee, malt, wood and sweetness in aroma. Toffee lingering, some alcohol stickyness, malt and some dried fruits. Long sweet finish. Slightly unbalanced and alcohol coming through too much to be enjoyable.

Bottle, vintage 2012. Pours amber in color with an off-white head. Sweet brown sugar and dark syrup in aroma. Also some dark fruits and vinous notes are present. Quite pleasant aroma indeed. Dark syrup, malty sweetness and vinous notes in taste. Scaringly easy to drink despite the quite high abv.

Pours a deep amber color with a caramel aroma. Taste is clean but finishes with a burn. Nice high alcohol flavor with a mellow malt flavor. The burn fades quickly, and leaves the chest with a warm tingle. A good beer for the style.

Had a 2011 vintage. Decent Barleywine. Pours brown with a just a tinge of red. Slight white head. Scent is hay, grass, and molasses. Despite age, hop characted still existed. Interested to see if this tastes more like a IIPA when fresh. Nice beer. Might like to do a vertical someday. Bottle - Received in Trade

Aroma - not much there. Appearance - amber no head on aggressive pour. Taste - smooth for such high ABV. Not much there for me. Drinks like a session. Mouth - med carb Overall - nothing like old stock reserve. Just okay.

2014 bottle poured into a snifter. Aroma was somewhat boozy. Appearance was a clear red amber with a very small light tan head that rapidly vanished. Taste was fairly boozy with dark fruits, prunes, raisins, plums. Palate was excellent. This beer is definitely a sipper and can use some age. I have multiple years of this beer and they can be aged a number of years with great results. I highly recommend setting some aside.

Poured from a bottle into a snifter a red amber color with minimal head. Aroma is very boozy dark fruit a lot of sweetness. Caramel. Malts. Flavor is high ABV syrupy with some clove & toffee. So delicious. Higher carbonation but know from bottles consumed of earlier years hat this will even Overall a rock solid Old Ale. Grateful for the ones I have tasted and even more so to lay a few of them down.
