COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As a continuation of North Coast Brewing Co.’s commitment to quality, our Old Stock Ale is crafted in the tradition of our critically acclaimed Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale and Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. It’s brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so it’s a beer to be served proudly. Like a fine wine, North Coast’s Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round-out and mellow with age. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale is a vintage dated ale. We produce a small quantity each year and it remains available from release date until our stock is depleted.

2012 Vintage pours a deep red with a thin head that doesn’t last long. Aroma is sweet maltiness and caramel with alcohol, not too much coming in the way of hops. Taste is much more sweet than bitter to balance out the booziness, was somewhat shocked to see the ABV was so high. Has a medium mouthfeel with average carbonation. Overall this is a solid (but pricey) english barleywine, would be great to lay down a few bottles of each years vintage to do occasional vertical tastings.

2011 bottle from own cellar. Deep clear red brown color. Beautiful. Fizzy head that disappeared quickly. Aroma is rich berries, raspberry, lingonberry, caramel, sweet plums. Nice sweet and complex. Taste: berries, candy, caramel, malty, thick mouthfeel with some alcohol there. Very nice!

Bottle pour murky orange brown with rapidly dissipating head. Nose dates, raisin, caramel, sweeter character. Taste again, raisin, caramel, slight minerality. Late palate light alcohol. Light spice and caramel again in the aftertaste.

Bottle @ Bishops Arms, Gustav Adolfs Torg. Vintage 2013. Minor gusher. Hazy reddish brown with a beige head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, dried fruit and alcohol. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Sweet and moderate bitter finish with warming alcohol. Oily. 110715

2013 bottle split with Dave during an episode of GoT. Malt foward, not too sweet, stout influence definitely there. Nice.

Good fizzy head that dissipates after a while with a copper color. High alcohol is evident from the start, but is very well behaved. Tastes of cotton candy, burnt caramel, and here comes the alcohol. Oh boy, really great beer, well balanced. A must to have several in your private stash.

I have never rated beer before, but I thought this was great. I smoked a pipe while drinking it and enjoyed it a lot.

Raisin aroma and color. Some peanut brittle and an odd ripe to rotten strawberry flavor. No alcohol taste but you feel the burn down the pipe in the end. Slight sweetness and yeasty. Lots of sediment in there and I haven’t even had much of the bottle. 2013 vintage in bottle.

Bottled on 1/7/2014. Big caramel aroma; some candied orange and toffee as well. Taste is very caramel forward, followed by vanilla, toffee, light orange zest, and then bitter at the back of the tongue and booze burn when swallowing.
