COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As a continuation of North Coast Brewing Co.’s commitment to quality, our Old Stock Ale is crafted in the tradition of our critically acclaimed Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale and Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. It’s brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so it’s a beer to be served proudly. Like a fine wine, North Coast’s Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round-out and mellow with age. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale is a vintage dated ale. We produce a small quantity each year and it remains available from release date until our stock is depleted.

12 fl oz bottle, 2004. Pours slight cloudy deep amber/light brown with a diminished off-white head. Solid overripe and dried fruit aroma, into wineous notes. Liqourice like flavoured with a solid caramel malt base. Growing bitterness into the finish. Very smooth fruity note lingering inbetween the fullbodied brew. Nicely balanced and smooth into the finish with an intense and slowly declining flavour.

UPDATED: MAR 6, 2006 (Bottle 35,5 cl) Dark brown with a ruby-red hue. Nice ligh tbrown head that collapses rather quickly though. Clear and filtered. Dry, vinous nose. Complex, full notes of dried fruit and an oaky, wooden touch. Some sweetness with a dry, bitter finish - but far from the extreme. Incredibly solid and chewy beer - the kind you can enjoy sip by sip for hours almost. A lovely Barley Wine. 060605

The color is dark brown; it has a medium-sized head, a bit fizzy, but with some persitence. Nice aroma, hop and caramel; light cheesy yeast too, and lightly buttery; rich and dynamic. Good malt flavor, and caramel; just some sweetness but not too much; some dusty chocolate too, and traces of milk cream. Correct bitterness. The final has traces of nuts too; and a bit too much alcohol. Good, but more is expected from a Barley Wine.

Darker color than the others, the head as well doesn’t stay long. The aroma is not impressive, but the flavor reaches good balance and complexity; not much sweet, with a good mix of caramel, oxidized malt, bitterness, Very good, the most intriguing of this vertical.

Dark amber color, hazy. The aroma shows some alcohol and malt; the 2007 has light oxidized caramel, the 2008 has very light fruitness (apples). Malt and caramel flavor, the 2008 is sweeter, the 2007 has now used more of it and it has a better balance toffee-fudge-bitterness. Good bitterness. At the end the 2007 is more alcoholic, the 2008 is more balanced.

Clean red - dark amber color. Malty aroma, caramel, fudge impression, light alcohol. Solid, well malty, a lot of sweet caramel, liquorice and salt; burning final. Ends very bitter, with loads of caramel. Probably too young, and probably not suitable for ageing.
