3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
2000 bottling; mid-July 2002 tasting notes. Not very exciting. Age did not help; was big and boozy ~ mid-2000. Big alcohol burn and some vanilla notesÖ. why do I keep thinking ďmedicineyĒ? Sure was fun to drink though (ďÖtake your medicineĒ). Oooooffff.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Review of the 2001, I was lucky to get this in a beer exchange.
Pours a dark reddish brown color with a small tan head that dissipates quickly. No noticeable lacing.
Strong smell of sweet malts and dark malts along with the heavy scent of alcohol. Rum raisin comes to mind.
Raisin and sweet malts. There are hints chocolate and it finishes with a coffee flavored bitterness. Reminds me of a raisin bran muffin. Amazingly smooth but there is a slight burn from alcohol throughout.
Full bodied beer with syrupy consistency and soft carbonation. Slight spicy pepper finish from the alcohol.
A lot smoother than I expected. If it wasnít for the alcohol burn I could drink a lot more.

4.1 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2002 vintage. Wonderful mahogny color with little head to speak of. Aroma of dried fruit, undoubtedly due to the heavy malt presence. Perfect level of carbonation. Quite warming indeed. Wonderfully bitter, with an excellent rich malty finish. I bought two of these by accident, though I don't think this will be a mistake I regret

Thin head but amazing aroma like someone baking a pie - but itís beer! the color is cloudy caramel amber.
Mouth feel is not as full as you might expect from an 11.7 ABV, but you really donít taste the alcohol. It tastes alot like a dubbel. You get that belgian wiff in the aroma and after taste bitter. You get alot of caramel malt balanced with a grassy dry bitter.
Itís a unique Barley wine and itís very good. I like it better than the Old Rasputin.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma: Interesting, you can definitly smell the grapes, cherries and even a sort of cognac smell (barrell?), but there is also a bit of a metallic smell, could just be my glass though, but Iíve never smelled it before. Appearance: A brownish/red color with a one finger head that dissipates quickly, but laces nicely on the glass. Taste: Granted Iím particularly biased towards Barley Wines, they are my favorites, but this seems delicious. Itís like Iím drinking decadence, cherries, grapes, other fruit, sugar, butterscotch, caramel, vanilla. Excellent flavor. Palate: Smooth, with almost no carbonation but a nice silky feeling going down. Overall: Again, Iím particularly biased towards barley wine, but this is really good, highly recommend.

Bottle, 2010. Dark, clear red color with small head. Lovely look to this one! Caramel sweetness and bready malt in the nose. Some dried fruit and wooden touch as well. The taste is well balanced sweet malt with hints of vanilla, some raisins, plums and distant rumbling bitterness. Medium and oily body with light carbonation. Light bitterness in a long finish. A cracker beer for cold nights in front of a fire. Good stuff!

3.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2005. Pours a deep red brown with a small off white head that disappears quickly, little to no lacing remaining. Smells sweet. Tastes slightly hoppy, with definite alcohol present. Not a regular in my book, but no barleywine is...
