COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As a continuation of North Coast Brewing Co.ís commitment to quality, our Old Stock Ale is crafted in the tradition of our critically acclaimed Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale and Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. Itís brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so itís a beer to be served proudly. Like a fine wine, North Coastís Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round-out and mellow with age. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale is a vintage dated ale. We produce a small quantity each year and it remains available from release date until our stock is depleted.

very nice at one year of aging and all that stuff that goes with a barley wine.

2011 Bottle. Aroma of raisins and brown sugar. Pours a woody brown color with thin tan head. Taste is rich. Some raisin, molasses, and pine resin. Overall a nice deep flavor, without being over the top.

UPDATED: OCT 8, 2014 12 oz bottle of 2014 vintage from Whole Foods in Hillsboro, OR. Aroma has brown sugar, tart cherries, leather, and NyQuil. Mouthfeel is thick and robust, with a bitter, boozy, and slightly astringent finish.

I had the 750 - tsunami relief bottle. Pretty stoked to drink this, I have been getting into bigger more barleywine type brews lately. Overall I wasnít blown away. The aroma is sweet with a sharpness I canít quite nail down, the palate is similar. There is this bite to it that I canít explain. It must just be the heat from the booze.

2008 Vintage Pours a dark brown color with virtually no head. It has a scent of malts and some oak, with some alcohol present as well. The initial flavor rapidly progresses from a quick hoppy bite to sweet malts to a somewhat oaken, alcoholic finish. This is a great, top class barley wine, not over the top hoppy like some I have had. The only thing that prevented me from rating this higher was the fact that I could sense the alcohol as much as I did. I am laying down the rest of my 4 pack to age for a while, hopefully it will mellow out and be even better!

12oz. bottle. Pours a cloudy, dark amber color with a thin, white head that dissipates quickly. Heavy aromas of plums, cherries, and alcohol with a hint of caramel. Flavor is of plums, apples, cherries and sugar with a slight spicey finish. Mouthfeel is very thin and light. Pretty good stuff.

On tap at Winterfest. Very sweet caramel flavor. Some booziness, but still very easy drinking with a slightly spicy finish. Old ale is really becoming a favorite style of mine. Sorry for the vague review, but I was very busy that day.

Wonderful. Lovely deep amber color with a nice creamy tightly bubbled tan head. Aroma of malt, fruit, licorice - mildly of burnt sugar and a little roastiness. Rasputin lurking below the surface, but kept at bay. Taste is deep and rich. Smell is pretty malty, but taste is more balanced. Slightly drying, hop finish. Can taste that gravity a bit. Totally digging this brew - should be a staple in everyone's cellar.

2006 vintage. The four pack has been growing on me. At first it did not compute as a Barley Wine but since tasting a Raison D Extra and an Avery The Beast it does rate well in the category of "sweet fortified strong ales." If youíre looking for something sweet, strong and mellow, this ranks high. If youíre looking for a classic Barley Wine, look elsewhere.
