4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: JAN 24, 2008 This is really good. Pours our an amber/brownish color, with a relatively small head. Caramelly aroma. Malty, toasty sweet taste. Well worth $10 per 4-pack.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours deep amber with perhaps some orange when held up to light. Strong floral aroma with licorice and toffee. The flavor just doesn’t do it for me -- soysauce taste throughout.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
’08 vintage, sampled in a snifter. Was hoping for more based on the reviews as well as my affinity for Old Rasputin. Very aromatic with a nice balance between hops notes (grapefruit/citrus) and malts as well as an aroma I wasn’t able to put my finger on. Flavor was well balanced and leaned a little more hoppy than malty. There was a peculiar dryness to it and what another reviewer referred to as woody...I think I could agree to use that term as I’ve not thought of one more suitable. Certainly not a bad brew, but not my favorite example of the style either.

3.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2013 bottle. Pours hazy amber with an off white head that lasts. Smells of honey and oak. Drinks smoothly with mild lingering hop bitterness. Medium to full bodied. Tastes of honey, dried fruit, and rye. Buries 12 percent alcohol.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Rated at the Pewaukee Tasting II 5/5/07.
Cloudy light brown, modest head. Robust sweet malty aroma., very attractive, almost that of a good doppelbock but loaded with more extra-curricular ‘stuff’, pop, sizzle, hops, cherry, fruity.
Flavor – Lots of malt-hop ‘zip’, very lively, a little carbonation sting, balanced.
Palate – Medium bodied

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cloudy amber/brown - opaque in the middle and clearing around the edges. Alcholic fruity aramel aroma. Taste follows. Alcohol-caramel-smoky-malt mixture with fruity (raisin) undertones. Butterscotch mouthfeel - rich and coating. Alcohol remains strong throughout. Mixes well with other flavors, but definitely a sipping beer, and a good one at that.

4.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
2014 bottle poured into a snifter. Aroma was somewhat boozy. Appearance was a clear red amber with a very small light tan head that rapidly vanished. Taste was fairly boozy with dark fruits, prunes, raisins, plums. Palate was excellent. This beer is definitely a sipper and can use some age. I have multiple years of this beer and they can be aged a number of years with great results. I highly recommend setting some aside.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2004. Still young, but so what. You could probably serve this on the rocks and get away with it. Red/amber color and the last sip tasted better than the first.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Amber pour with tan head. Very strong alcoholic malty aroma. Tastes of more malt and caramel with, vanilla, dark fruit, and a little chocolate with a nice balanced finish. Good carbonation and mouthfeel. This is an excellent, complex brew.
