Commercial Description:
As a continuation of North Coast Brewing Co.’s commitment to quality, our Old Stock Ale is crafted in the tradition of our critically acclaimed Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale and Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. It’s brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so it’s a beer to be served proudly. Like a fine wine, North Coast’s Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round-out and mellow with age. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale is a vintage dated ale. We produce a small quantity each year and it remains available from release date until our stock is depleted.

pre-2006 ABV: 11.4%.
2006 vintages: 11.6% & 13.25%.
2007 vintage: 11.7%.

The 12 ounce bottle of 2008 Old Stock poured a beautiful clear rich ruby red colored beverage with a small creamy off-white head that lasted well and left some lacing on the glass. The aroma was not yet well developed for the style but it was somewhat sweet and fruity with lots of caramel and spice notes in the background. The body was quite full with soft carbonation and a thick, smooth texture. The flavor started out strongly sweet and stayed that way throughout the very long finish.

LCRBM: Sweet grapefruit and caramel in the nose. Suprisingly plesant and smooth, not offensive. Brown in colour. Sweet yet not cloying. Dry hop finish. Good stuff.

scary clouded and brilliant..i mean brilliant red hinting at getting browner..but not doing so...the head, what was left of it..settled in an uneven ring with soapy discharges lingering in the center..the aroma was fruitifully creamy..cherried..twilzerific..cream covered grapefruit juice, with a shot of orange juice to downplay the bitterness...I’m not sure the downplay worked..very citrusy without being too puckery..leaving some room for creaminess..subtly..very different I like it..its snazzy..if it was russian..it be old stockski..

2005 Deep amber color with very little head. Very light carbation. Spicy sweet aroma. Flavor is also sweet and spicey. Slight initial alcohol warming. Smooth finish with no lingering after taste. Sets on the stomach pretty warm. Good beer.

Bottle 2004: Brown pour with minimal head. Aroma was roasty, alcohol, some spice and molassas. Flavor was a lot of sweet malt, some bittering hops, but they were fading. The alcohol was still there, but it was pretty solid.

Fresh 2007 on tap. Pours a rich maroonish color with a small offwhite head. Smell is mainly alcohol and light maltiness with an almost faint skunkiness to it, somehow. Prickly, boozy mouthfeel, with flavors of alcohol, hops, and somewhat dry. Decent flavor and drinkable, but I can see this being a lot better with some age, and look forward to trying some older bottles.
