Mmmmmmmm, good. This one is distinctive, and it also has a real nice kick! Rich, malty. and sweet, but not in a cheap or brash way. Kind of like a barleywine, but not quite as sweet as I remember the barleywine at the pub of the hotel where I stayed in England, but. I consider this brew just as classy and enjoyable to drink as whatever it was I drank those nights across the pond. This is about twice as strong in alcohol as the average beer or ale, but the alcohol taste is well integrated in a pleasant way with the wonderful flavor of the drink.

Bottle @ home. 2012 vintage - cellared. Pours a deep amber liquid with a stable medium sized, tan head. Aroma is like opening a bag of candy - fruity sweet. Slightly vinous with dark fruits and loads of sweet maltiness, carmamel, toffee. Hints of milk chocolate. Warming alcohol. Taste is similar with a big body and great duration. Residual sweetness lingering throughout. Flavor is moderately vinous and has notes of dark and red fruits, caramel, toffee, alcohol, syrup, sweet candy, biscuits, spices. Vertical tasting with a young 2015 bottle: Itís reminiscent but with a quite distinct grainy character in comparison. Its fruity and sweet but without as much intensity and mellowness gained from the sweet candy/caramel/toffee character (which is so nice) in vintages if this beer.

Brown, slightly redish liquid with off white head. Aroma is mainly bread to me. Smooth, but rather anonimous taste. Not bad, but definitely overrated.

Bottle at tasting. Copper orange color. Aroma of sweet malt, raisin, grain and ripe fruit. Thick taste of sweet raisin, caramelised malt, toffee and ripe fruit. Bit like a barley wine. Not bad, could use some aging.

Bottle of the 2015 from the Great British Beer festival 2015. Third beer from this brewery and each one has been magnificent. This is listed as an old ale, but itís profile feels more towards a barley wine. Colour is murky, rich reddish orange. Deep rusty with off white beige head which dissipates to nothing. Nose is sublime. Big fruity, particularly dried apricot, stewed plum, prune, pear, barley sugar, ripe fruit. What a joy to have a big American ale which is not cloying with pine and citrous fruit. Taste is ripe fruit, prune, plums, apricot, slight citrous bitterness, tangy fruit, raisins and sultanas, fruit bready. Deep, rich fruity beer. Stunning. Congratulations to the brewers. This is excellence.

Bottle from andersons. 2015 vintage. Nose is malt and dark fruit. Body follows and is smooth with mild alcohol bite. Flowery and dark sugars like molasses mix in for a good balance. Look forward to Trying these one a year.

12 oz 2015 bottle allowed to warm for about 25 minutes then served in a Porter Bar goblet. Aroma: complex mix of various dark dried fruits, fruitcake, and hints of toffee. Flavor: similar to the aroma; good complexity and balance. Sweet for style, leaning a bit towards a barleywine. Feel: full and smooth but with more alcohol heat than optimal. Light but appropriate carbonation. Overall: excellent; clearly I ought to get more and age it a while.

2016 vintage (11.8%) It pours dark amber/brown with a thin yellowish head. Aroma is lot of malts and some ripe berries. Taste is of a classic English strong ale, very malty, sweet, bready and boozy, no hops. Full bodied, low carbonation, A slow sipper, nearly a barley wine. Excellent.
