COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As a continuation of North Coast Brewing Co.’s commitment to quality, our Old Stock Ale is crafted in the tradition of our critically acclaimed Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale and Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. It’s brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so it’s a beer to be served proudly. Like a fine wine, North Coast’s Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round-out and mellow with age. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale is a vintage dated ale. We produce a small quantity each year and it remains available from release date until our stock is depleted.

Not your typical beer. First off I just wanna say this is such an awesome beer just because of how different it is. It’s put in scotch wood barrels and it really tastes like your sipping a nice scotch I’m surprised by the reviews I read that nobody has mentioned that yet. I poured a 2012 unaged 12 oz. bottle into a tulip glass. It’s very dark amber, small head. Complex and strong. Tastes of raisin, plums, toast, wood and alcohol. Made for aging, can only imagine how it would taste after a few years. Great beer.

355mL from Slowbeer 2014 vintage Pours a deep hazy copper body Small dense creamy head persists. Aroma is HUGELY malty - toasted nuts, brown toffee, butter caramel, sultana & dried fig, even more toasted nuts (somehow!?), vanilla, slight woody whisky undertones. Lovely & rich on the palate - syrupy, chewy, yet not cloying, low carbonation. Oh yeah! This is a showcase of BIG malt flavours - toasted nuts, sweet biscuit, toffee & caramel, raisin, sultana, dried fig, vinous black fruit undertones. Good bitterness, lingers, but oh so smooth on a long warm finish. This is top notch! Old ales don’t get much better than this

Color is a beautiful reddish brown. Nose has a sweet malt with cocoa, red fruits and some dark fruits that remind me of cognac. Taste (new 2015 batch) - Smooth malty goodness with good carbonation. A tad of bitterness on the mid palate but the fruits and malts balance throughout. Finishes fairly clean with just some light malt to chew on. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2012. Context. Without it your rates, ticks, or whatever you want to call it has no value. Comtext cannot be forced and great beers cannot be properly assessed or enjoyed in a night of assembly line ticking where speed and quantity are all that matter. North Coast Old Stock Ale is case in point. Understanding it requires time. And focus. It sparkles and has the most gorgeous reddy brown colour imaginable. Totally restrained and yet with great structure supporting a spirity this gloriously orangish brown beer is meant to be savoured over time. Old school and proud of it, this beer is the perfect antiethis for everything which is wrong with the modern craft beer scene.

12 fl oz bottle @Cimmeria, Oviedo. 07-04-2015.
BBD: Dec 2015. Vintage 2015 (if this makes any sense...)
In short: malty ale.
Pours hazy copper with little off white head. Short head retention, poor lacing. Ripe fruit, caramel and some solvent like aromas. Medium body, soft carbonation, oily texture. Taste is smooth, sweet, caramel, fruity, but some off ones, a bit dry and little harsh.

2014 vintage on tap: Pours honey gold with thin creamy head. Aroma is malt with some fermented fruit. Taste is sweet and covers the alcohol well but not overbearing. Mouthfeel is incredibly smooth for a >10 abv beer... unbelievable.

2014 bottle from cellarbrations super store in hami hill. Pours murky amber with a thin disappearing head. Body is full with low carbonation. Aroma is intense. Boozyness is very evident but is slightly masked by sweet burnt sugar, toffee, nuts and dark fruits. Taste is just as complex and amazing as the aroma. A sugary sweetness begins the palate which then develops into port. The finish is slightly bitter with a very warming hit of booze at the end of the palate with flavours of dried nuts, sultanas and apricots remaining as an after taste. Great beer

2009 bottle, 11.5%. Cherry-port nose giving way to a caramel chocolate. Sweetish, slightly raisiny, heavy velvety body. Just enough bitterness to balance the sweetness and body. Great strong ale.

2015 Bottle - 11.9%. Pours brown/dark amber with a slightly off white head. aroma is light caramel, some sticky pudding, dark figgy fruit. Medium body, lightish carbonation. There’s mostly sweet stuff - caramel, light burnt sugar, light treacle, dark raisiny, figgy fruits, rum, coke, booze... Its fine, the booze is a bit harsh but there’s some nice rich flavours too.
