As a continuation of North Coast Brewing Co.’s commitment to quality, our Old Stock Ale is crafted in the tradition of our critically acclaimed Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale and Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. It’s brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so it’s a beer to be served proudly. Like a fine wine, North Coast’s Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round-out and mellow with age. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale is a vintage dated ale. We produce a small quantity each year and it remains available from release date until our stock is depleted.

What I like the most about this beer is the harmonius marriage between the Maris Otter Malt and the Fuggles on the aroma - the interplay between them is fantastic! Also an unmistakable breadiness that is the mark of imported British malts. Taste is of maple, some cherry notes deep malt taste with a malty, warming alcoholic finish. Simply outstanding.

Pours a hazy brown. Aroma is sweet with dark fruits and malts. Taste is dark fruits, bready, and has some alcohol in the finish.

(backlog) Bottle at a tasting at maxxdaddy’s. Not sure on vintage, we drank in 2011. Brown amber pour with tan head. Sweet, fruit, spice, touch of sherry and alcohol tones.

Amber brown with a slight haze, one finger head and sticky thin lacing. Aromas of caramelized malts, ripe fruit and alcohol. Ripe fruit flavors accomapnied by raisin and bourbon, caramel malt and faint grassy hops. Full bodied, minimal carbonation, oily texture and a sweetness in the finish.

2014 edition at barely legal tasting room Pours dark , brown , good yet fast fading white head . Smell is balanced yet intensely sweet . Taste is very nice , liquor-ish mouthfeel . Sweet , earth and bit bitter . . would have prefered a touch less carbonation . Nice !

355ml bottle from Beers of Europe, 2014 vintage. Pours clear copper-brown, no head. Aromas of calvados, brown sugar, strong herbal notes, christmas cake mix. Taste is sweet and boozy at first, giving way to nuttiness and more herbs. Oily texture, sticky finish. Not bad.

2013 vintage in 12oz bottle. Served at 48degs. The beer poured a cloudy caramel color. A thick foamy head persisted for about 15 mins. Aroma is molasses, fermented dark fruit, prune, alcohol and bread (the Maris Otter comes through!). Alcohol and vinous sweetness on the palate. A pleasant bitterness on the finish with a touch of oxidation. This is a big beer and it takes time to sort it out. Thick mouthfeel with a long long finish. Overall, nothing to complain about. It doesn’t feel like there are a lot of silly spice additions to detract from the wonderful malt and the rich gravity of this beer. I have come to expect a lot from North Coast. This beer does not disappoint. It’s a little hot. I have three other bottles that I will let sit another year. Then we will see if the alcohol has mellowed a bit.

12 oz bottle. 2014 offering. Pours dark honey/burnt orange color. Aroma of brown sugar, caramel, anise, raisin. Flavor of caramel, molasses, brown sugar, vanilla, touch of anise. A sweeter beer, but well balance. Quite a nice brew.

2014. Pour is dark red, almost a cranberry juice color. Minimal head that dissipates rather quickly and leaves a ring of foam around the edge of the glass. Aroma is raisin, caramel malts, sweet brown sugar, and a little bit of alcohol sweetness. Taste is big raisin and caramel, as well as some alcohol warmth. Pretty good Barleywine, but not my fave.
