COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As a continuation of North Coast Brewing Co.’s commitment to quality, our Old Stock Ale is crafted in the tradition of our critically acclaimed Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale and Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. It’s brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so it’s a beer to be served proudly. Like a fine wine, North Coast’s Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round-out and mellow with age. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale is a vintage dated ale. We produce a small quantity each year and it remains available from release date until our stock is depleted.

Rich, copper colour and a rich, copper (in a good way!) taste. Smooth, relaxing and full bodied.

2014 Bottle into a tulip glass. Pours a dark amber with a thin white head that quickly fades. No lacing. Nose is raisins and caramel, and the taste is the same, with the alcohol well masked. Probably would improve with some aging. Well balanced.

dambor (76) - Berlin, GERMANY - DEC 10, 2014
2014 vintage. Pours copper with no head. Aroma: caramel, figs, malty sweetness and plum. Taste: subtle caramel with dark fruits. Very balanced, an English style Barley Wine. Alcohol incredibly well hidden (no way it has over 11% ABV!). Interesting, but it will definitely get more complex after 1+ years. Need to get another bottle!

Mahogany with a bit of haze and a thin but persistent head. Aroma of caramel, figs and leather. Lots going on in the taste. Gotta love the complex.

SamTheBarrel (497) - Vallentuna, SWEDEN - DEC 7, 2014
355ml brown 2010 years vintage brown bottle, rated 11.7% ABV, poured into a snifter glass. Appearance is hazy mahogany with a small tan head that dissipated quickly, leaving no lacing. Aroma of caramel, apricot marmalade and raisins. Flavours of caramel, apricot marmalade, toast, raisins, vanilla and oak wood notes. Taste is heavy-medium sweet and medium bitter. Palate is medium-full bodied, slightly syrupy texture and soft carbonation. North Coast Old Stock Ale is a great Barley Wine. Balanced and mellow flavours with the alcohol being completely masked, perhaps due to aging this bottle 4 years.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a hazy brown with a thin light tan head that lasts. Taste is of wood, bourbon, caramel malt, vanilla, light smoke, fruit and some citrus. Similar aroma. Has a full body with a boozy finish. An excellent brew, that is easy to drink for its alcohol content.

2014 bottle. Pours a clear ruby/caramel with a ring head. Aroma is a mildly sweet caramel, and dark fruits. Taste is balanced. Bready caramel and dark fruits. Medium-high body and carbonation. Smooth texture with a home dry finish. Overall tasty. Would be good aged.

superspak (2836) - Michigan, USA - NOV 14, 2014
12 ounce bottle into snifter; 2012 vintage, bottled in early 2012. Pours slightly hazy dark ruby red color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big caramel, toffee, toast, raisin, plum, fig, apple, date, cherry, brown sugar, brown bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and fruity/earthy yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of big caramel, toffee, toast, brown bread, raisin, plum, fig, apple, date, cherry, brown sugar, light nuttiness, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light earthy herbal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, brown bread, raisin, plum, fig, apple, date, cherry, brown sugar, light nuttiness, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity and balance of dark/bready malt and fruity/earthy yeast ester flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a creamy and moderately slick/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is fairly well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome old ale. All around great complexity and balance of dark/bready malt and fruity/earthy yeast ester flavors; and quite smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Bottle, 2008 vintage. HUGE malty aroma. Mahogany color, with tight bubbles of an off white head. Tastes almost like it was barrel aged, but it’s just a great combination of malts. Full bodied. Very good beer!
