COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As a continuation of North Coast Brewing Co.’s commitment to quality, our Old Stock Ale is crafted in the tradition of our critically acclaimed Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale and Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. It’s brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so it’s a beer to be served proudly. Like a fine wine, North Coast’s Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round-out and mellow with age. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale is a vintage dated ale. We produce a small quantity each year and it remains available from release date until our stock is depleted.

Red. No head. Slightly roasted. Loads of warming alcohol in the finish. Spicey flavour. A bit to earthy and dirty.

2012 vintage. I did not age it, because the packaging did not mention that it should be aged - nor did it even say what style of beer this is. Aroma is reminiscent of raisins, figs, etc - almost like a quad, but more skunky and unpleasant. As for the flavor: my description would be the same as for the aroma. The palate is incredibly thick, sticky, and resinous. One of the most "rich" beers that I’ve ever had. Lots of dense, powerful, unforgiving flavors all packed together. A good beer for the critics, I guess - but quite difficult to enjoy. Probably gets better with age.

Pours thick and syrupy. Low carbonation and no head to speak of on the dark brown body. Aroma has hints of raisin and alcohol. Flavor is sweet with an alcoholic kick in the end. Not a lot to brag about in this one.

9/10/11/13/9/11

12oz. bottle, 2005 vintage. Deep reddish brown, small tan head. Figs, caramel, biscuit, and alcohol in the aroma. Heavy dark alefruit flavors with overtones of caramel. Spiciness in the finish, with a fusel alchol character. Mouthfeel is heavy, somewhat chewy, and rather hot.

2004 Vintage. - Deep amber colour. Aromatic nose, with notes of demerara sugar, chocolate and dates. Very smooth mouthfeel, but the taste does not keep the promises you get from the nose. Obviously beers like this tend to improve with further ageing, and i think it has some really great potential if left for another couple of years.........

*did not mind, would not buy this year* smell: spiced rum! sweet malts, caramel. app: ruby garnet lovely magic! flavor: nice sweet, yummy, but a bit harsh, some chemical in the booze flavor. this is more enjoyable than drinking a rum and a bit more smooth. and full. but it is on par with strength of a rum. like most booze the more you sip the less it hurts and the flavor starts to poke out. this year all n all is a bit harsh for me, i wish it was listed as a different beer.. oh well. palate: fine, it lacks luxury. OA: great beer usually, needs lots of age.. which is annoying. this year is not my favorite.

Fresh 2007 on tap. Pours a rich maroonish color with a small offwhite head. Smell is mainly alcohol and light maltiness with an almost faint skunkiness to it, somehow. Prickly, boozy mouthfeel, with flavors of alcohol, hops, and somewhat dry. Decent flavor and drinkable, but I can see this being a lot better with some age, and look forward to trying some older bottles.
