2005 Vintage. Excellent old style ale. Needs to mature to bring out all of its potential, however, it still is worth a fresh once-over.

Pours a deep hazy amber/bronze with fading tan head. Thick aroma of spicy toffeeish malts. Slight chocolatey touch, resiny hint, and strong alcohol touch. Sweet caramel body with strong surfaced alcohol, which hurts the throat. Slightly chocolatey and caramel notes, slight zesty peppery alcohol bite, light citrus (tangerine) hint, a resiny hop touch and a long roasty dry alcohol burn finish. Too much alcohol which masks the other flavors. It would be great with less alcohol flavor.

2006 bottle; pours a beautiful clear amber with a slight deep tan head that dissipates very quickly; no lacing. Aroma of caramel, toffee, toasted malt. Taste follows aroma nicely, adding a warm alcohol finish and a touch of vanilla. A bit sweet and youthful as expected, but I couldnít resist giving this a go; definitely has the potential for mellowing well; I look forward to a rerate after giving it some time in the cellar...

Dark copper. No head. Alcohol nose. Burnt caramel, brown sugar and molasses flavours.

Nice deep brown color. Aroma is that of cognac. Lots of caramel in the flavor. Slightly syrupy, which detracts just a bit overall.

"05 Vintage. Alcohol, and lots of fruits in the aroma (raisins and melon). Dark mohagany in color. Full palate. The taste is warm, malty, and bitter with a burning finish from the alcohol--definitely could use another year or two of age.

Bottle. 2006. 12 FL. OZ. Pours very brown with a hint of red and very little head that eventually disappears. No lacing either. Aromas of raisin and butterscotch. Fairly full-bodied with very little carbonation. Flavor is smooth and sweet with a long finish. Although you can tell its in there, this beer hides its 13.25% well.

12 oz bottle, 2007 vintage. Pours a reddish brown with a fizzy off-white head that quickly diminishes to a light dusting and then completely disappears.

The aroma is bitter grains and some DMS at first with sharp caramel alcohol, fruits and sugary sweetness coming out.

The flavor is sweet candy-like sugar with some sharp bitter alcohol in the finish. Some fruitiness comes out as it warms. The mouthfeel is medium to full with soft carbonation.

Overall, a mediocre barley wine. The alcohol and sweetness are pretty harsh and brash and it is not very complex. Maybe this is better after sitting a while...it is pretty hot.

Very strong barley wine. Lots and lots of candied fruit. One-dimensional (in this candied fruit kind of way). The syrupy fruit gets boring after a while.

This one really burns my cheek & throat. A lot of sweet - dark fruits - prune & raisin. Good amount of hops and warming & clearly visible alcohol. A true sipper - but again almost too powerfull. Medium body - sticky texture.
