COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As a continuation of North Coast Brewing Co.ís commitment to quality, our Old Stock Ale is crafted in the tradition of our critically acclaimed Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale and Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. Itís brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so itís a beer to be served proudly. Like a fine wine, North Coastís Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round-out and mellow with age. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale is a vintage dated ale. UPDATED: MAR 19, 2008 2008 bottle. Deep amber pour with thin head. Nose of strong caramel and sweetness. Taste is hot alcohol (of course...itís young), sweet tannic malts, and turpentine. As it warms the flavors a more integrated, but obviously too young. Will hold the rest of the bottles for a while, but I had to try it fresh. Current rating is this vintage. 2007 bottle. Bright garnet color. Aroma of caramel, sweet dark fruits and a little spice. Taste is a bit hot right now, with maple and floral notes. Nice hop finish. Needs a little time in the bottle to become a better beer. 7/4/6/4/14=3.5

Clear caramel brown look with a small brown head. Very sweet fruity aroma of plums or prunes mixed with whiskey and sweetmalts. Extremly fullbodied and complex flavor with tons of alchohol, sweet caramel, sirup and an underlying chocolate bitterness. Warming sweet alchohol finish.

12 ounce bottle - 2006. Cloudy brown with no head. Aroma was dark fruit and alcohol. There was a big alcohol bite up front with notes of prune and grapefruit. Bitteness kicks in as it warms.

AmEricanbrew (5840) - Same Trailer, Different Park, Louisiana, USA - NOV 28, 2007
2003 bottling. Has a mahogany hue with a thin , off white head. Strong caramel raison smell. Lightly carbonated with a syrupy mouthfeel . The flavor is of sticky sweet malts and raisons. Has an interesting spice - alcohol taste to finish. This brew tastes better on the cold side; a strong alcohol taste lowers the drinkability Feb 2004

2-10-08 tap (2007 brew)
Deep maroon-amber-brown in color with a thin filmy off white head. Smell is sweet and hoppy and quite pleasant. Flavor is nice and very sweet. The sweetness nearly coats the tongue. It is thick and not syrupy at all. Drinkable and flavorful. Nice palate - nothing too special though. Alcohol is present, without a doubt, but overall a good brew!

bottle, dark amber color, listless head, malty flavors with lots of alcohol, needs some age on it

Maybe I missed something here but this didn’t sit perfectly with me. Something I can’t put my finger on stopped me from truly enjoying this. May be it was the overpowering alcohol. Need to re rate

2007 bottle. Hot! The alcohol is kickin’! Hazy copper with a thin tan head, some fair lacing at the brew line. Sweet roasted malt aroma with a creamy caramel nose. Sweet malt flavor with a dry alcohol finish. Warm and full-bodied creamy palate. Needed more balance. Just had the Anchor Old Foghorn which was much more balance and pleasant to drink.

VERY alcoholy in the flavor. There as it goes down, and then a warming aftertaste continues the trend. No head to speak of. Color reminds me of flat A/W Root beer. Low carbonation, as fits the style. Definite malt overtone in the aftertaste, and for several minutes after drinking it. Iíd buy it again. This is definately sipping beer with its 11.4% alcohol!

this barleywine was definately not my fav of the style-good peer nose, murky brown appearance, but the taste was oily and kind a hard to describe-very malty with little bitterhop bite-i perfer the hoppier barleywines such as hog heaven and bigfoot-this was not my thing
