COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As a continuation of North Coast Brewing Co.ís commitment to quality, our Old Stock Ale is crafted in the tradition of our critically acclaimed Pranqster Belgian Style Golden Ale and Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. Itís brewed with classic floor-malted Maris Otter Pale Malt and Fuggles Hops imported from England, so itís a beer to be served proudly. Like a fine wine, North Coastís Old Stock Ale is intended to be laid down. With an original gravity of over 1100 and a generous hopping rate, Old Stock Ale is well-designed to round-out and mellow with age. North Coast Brewing Co. Old Stock Ale is a vintage dated ale. We produce a small quantity each year and it remains available from release date until our stock is depleted.

2007 12oz bottle. Whoa taste like i just had a glass of whiskey straight up. Not quite my cup of tea. Very malty and you can really taste the alcohol in this one.

Vintage 08 Poured from 12oz bottle a darker amber with thin beige head and little to no visible signs of carbonation. Aromas of caramel, molasses, maple syrup. Flavor is caramel and maple with a big dose of alcohol on the finish. Palate is heavy malt mouth sweetness almost chewy at first then thinning to a big alcohol warming and a faint bitterness. Overall not one I would seek out often. It has a watered down whiskey character to it. Not bad but there are many BWís that are much better.

Reviewed 2/7/2009 (2008 bottle): Pours a pretty clear brown reddish colored body, with small off-white head, diminishing quickly. Fruity, strawberry, aroma, some fizziness. Some malty nuttiness too. Not much hops or bitterness, just maltiness. Sweet taste, syrupy. Thick mouthfeel, some lightish carbonation. Very sweet fruity tasting, strawberry seeds, slight acidic and bitterness. Very strong taste, a slight hotness, but almost completely covered by the malts. Dark fruitiness, red grape, maybe plum. Better with food.

(2008 bottle) Chestnut and wheat aromas. Little lacing. Reddish brown pour. Yeasty sweet bread flavors. Mouthfeel is decently syrupy. Heavy in the malts.

UPDATED: AUG 7, 2010 2010 bottle. Head is initially small, frothy/fizzy, light brown, fully diminishing. Body is dark amber. Aroma is lightly malty (caramel, cookie), lightly hoppy (flowers, apricot), with notes of alcohol and peach. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, moderately to heavily alcoholic. 2007ís batch was dull enough that I didnít bother with the 08 or 09 batches. 2010 still shows no improvement. Very little aroma, and the mouth experience is rather watery and boozy

2002 version. Dark brown color with a full beige head. Sweet nose, very malty. Taste was well balanced with some notes of dates and orange. Alcohol evident in aftertaste. Can't wait to see how it ages.

UPDATED: FEB 7, 2007 Very cloudy brown, short lived tan head.Interesting fruity malt nose.Sweet smooth blended malt taste.Medium to strong alcohol heat Rather flat. As with most barleywines, the alcohol heat overpowers the taste, and I donít like that style. Thanks to Cap Flu Note-06 version is rather unblended, maybe needs aging?

2005 bottle. poured a clear brownish red color with an average head. Aroma of carmelly malts and alcohol not much hops. Flavor was alcohol with a little alcohol on top on alcohol maybe a little sweet maltiness. I usually rate beers that have a high alcohol % higher just because they are stronger, but I am just not getting much flavor at all out of this one. Maybe with a few more years of age this would mellow but i dont know. Im kinda dissapointed.

[2006 bottle] Dark redish brown with a low firm head. Sweet toffee aroma with fumes of alcohol. More sweet toffe shows up in the flavour, thereís notes of black currant as well. The taste of alcohol is a little bit too dominant but Iím sure a good cellar could take care of that. I donít have a cellar :o(

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2007 2006 version. Red, sweet and flavorful. Goes down easily, like a lambic but without the strong alcohol taste. Pretty good.
