500 ML bottle bought at Apex in Portland Dark mahogany color with a fast fading off white head that sits at a collar. Nose is bourbon, brown sugar, vanilla, and fig. Not nearly as sweet and sticky as the brandy version. Taste is oak, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate and fig. Medium bodied, light carbonation. Not sweet, sticky, or port like as the brandy version was. Much more reserved and slightly thinner. Still brilliant though

Drar parallellt bot en Brandy-variant. Årgång 2009. Kraftig bourbon i doften. Lite spritig men ton av champinjon. Positivt oxiderad. Söt och lite nötig men otippat tunn. Inget som stör dock.

Bottle @ Steve’s Super Bowl party. Pours a cloudy orangish brown appearance with a fizzy brown head. Heavy caramel and chocolate aroma. Some oak and whiskey as well. Dessert nose. Not nearly as sweet or goopy flavor as the brandy release. Booze is held in check a lot better. Fair amount of sweetness but not overwhelming. This was much more enjoyable and drinkable to me then the brandy version. Potentially a touch muted but good.

Pour is translucent brown with a small tan head. Aroma is heavy on the bourbon with notes of oak, vanilla, and caramel. Flavor is moderately sweet with the booze and bourbon coming through the strongest. Syrupy with little carbonation.

Most boozy of the bunch vs sucaba and bcntybw. Although 3rd of this bunch still great.

Pours reddish with clouds of whispy head. Aroma and taste of coconut and cremé brulee. The best barleywine I’ve had to date.

’09 edition. Haven’t really taken the time to review this, although I’ve had it probably six or seven times before; I usually only open one with company and don’t wanna be rude and review in front of them. This time - the bottle is allll mine! Pours a nice amber with a fleeting finger of taupe foam - leaving an etched surface. Nose is immaculate - nougat, bourbon, vanilla, fine malt syrup, bits of toffee, some caramalized sugar (near true creme brulee toasting). Flavor is rich and decadent with some maple, bourbon, vanilla, rich malts, some really nice sugars and a caramel flavor. Medium bodied with prickly carbonation. I really dig this beer.
