2009, bottle pour at CK. Syrupy mahogany pour, almost no head. Nose and flavor were rife with molasses, marzipan, caramel, still some boozy heat, huge malt complexity. Rich, but not cloying or overbearing. Really nice stuff.

2009 vintage. Among the best barley wines Iíve had. Pours clear mahogany with good head and lacing. Not so syrupy but thick. Smells like a lot of barrel on initial whiff but comes together with good balance afterwards. Some caramel, booze is well-hidden. Great stuff. Bottle pour at Churchkey -- thanks to Jackl for a taste of this.

Bottle @ CK. deep brown with no head. Strong bourbon. Vanilla and toffee. Some raisin and cocoa. The flavors a beautiful representation of tasteful barrel treatment. Holy shit. Perfect vanilla and hot cross buns. Rich, thick caramel malt notes. Slight heat on the finish. Full body, soft carb. So excellent.

"nuts, wood, caramel, dark fruit...whiskey and butterscotch. the hops even show themselves just a little, making this an incredibly smooth, complex sipper. i canít say i like it better than the Raspy 12...and definitely not 9x as good as Old Stock, though it costs more than 2 four packs of the base brew. that said, it was worth it for a bottle...and since this was a split bottle, i still got one more."

On tap at Taps in Petaluma. Pours a reddy brown color without much head. Malty and mild bourbon balances well.

2009 bottle. muddy brown with a small but persistent beige head and some lively bubbles arising from the murky depths. oaky woody aroma with caramel and hints of vanilla. lots of sweet caramel and vanilla with oak and bourbon. more carbonated than usual for this sort of thing to my surprise. the co2 level however distracts slightly from the complex flavor. its a good beer, but not worth the heavy pricetag. i remember sampling the brandy barrel years ago and remember it as superior.

2009 ed. Drank as the tail end of a 5 year regular Old Stock. This was one hell of rich drink. Low carbonation delivered smooth bourbon and rich caramel. Closer to a cordial than a beer. Rich, boozy, but subdued to the 5 years of age. A sipper for sure.

UPDATED: JUL 18, 2014 Murky brown color with tan head. Aroma is molasses, dried figs, oak, and whiskey. Flavor is malty with molasses and figs. Some nice oak flavors in the middle with caramel and brown sugar flavors and finishing with a whiskey booziness.

Dark brown with thin head. Vanilla oak molasses and booze aroma. Slightly sticky sweet molasses and dried fruit flavors. Five years has made this barlt wine very smooth, still has enough carbonation. A very nice treat from the wife.
