2009. Pours a dark copper, brown color with lots of carbonation and a fizzy, soda like head. Aroma is brown sugar, caramel, lots of bourbon, vanilla, and oak. Taste is very warming, not overly boozy. Much smoother than I would have expected given the aroma. Bourbon and chocolate notes. Interested to see what this will do over time, but $24 a bottle is pretty steep.

Bottle, Vertical tasting with 2014 old stock, 2012 ostuchi, 2011 Brandy, 2009 Bourbon. All pour similar murky brown with the BA versions being fairly low carb. Aroma is dark fruits, light oak and bourbon, smooth booze and rich malts.

2009 vintage in ceramic grey bottle. Pours a murky brown with minimal white lacy head. Aroma of heavy bourbon vanilla sweetness. Taste is more balanced toward the malt, but still big bourbon notes. Little to no carbonation, sweet and boozy, but nice.

Vintage 2009 bottle purchased and poured at The Porter Bar in Atlanta on 11/23/14. Pours deep dark brown with no head at all. Beautiful aroma of vanilla, caramel, lots of smooth bourbon still present, oak, toffee, marshmallow. Flavor follows with a big bourbon punch that is very mellow, sweet brown sugar and caramel, vanilla marshmallow notes, a hint of chocolate, smooth oak. Wow this is good. Chewey body with low plus carbonation, coats the mouth. This was really nice and the bottle was clearly well-kept for the past few years. Just a really nice beer.

Bottle (375 ml). 2009 vintage. Slightly hazy dark ruby with a small ring of beige foam. Aroma is quite complex with bourbon, figs, plums, raisins, vanilla, molasses, alcohol, oxidation notes, oak and hints of tobacco. Taste is not really sweet, which is nice... but it didnít held up as good as the aroma. Thereís bourbon, molasses, tobacco, vanilla, plums, figs, raisins and alcohol. Full bodied. Soft carbonation. Viscous and syrupy mouthfeel. Warming (but not burning) finish. Very elegant Barrel-Aged Barley Wine! Quite complex and nice depth. Aroma is entincing. Completely different than the regular Old Stock, which tell a lot about how good are these guys with barrels.

2009, bottle pour at CK. Syrupy mahogany pour, almost no head. Nose and flavor were rife with molasses, marzipan, caramel, still some boozy heat, huge malt complexity. Rich, but not cloying or overbearing. Really nice stuff.

2009 vintage. Among the best barley wines Iíve had. Pours clear mahogany with good head and lacing. Not so syrupy but thick. Smells like a lot of barrel on initial whiff but comes together with good balance afterwards. Some caramel, booze is well-hidden. Great stuff. Bottle pour at Churchkey -- thanks to Jackl for a taste of this.

Bottle @ CK. deep brown with no head. Strong bourbon. Vanilla and toffee. Some raisin and cocoa. The flavors a beautiful representation of tasteful barrel treatment. Holy shit. Perfect vanilla and hot cross buns. Rich, thick caramel malt notes. Slight heat on the finish. Full body, soft carb. So excellent.

"nuts, wood, caramel, dark fruit...whiskey and butterscotch. the hops even show themselves just a little, making this an incredibly smooth, complex sipper. i canít say i like it better than the Raspy 12...and definitely not 9x as good as Old Stock, though it costs more than 2 four packs of the base brew. that said, it was worth it for a bottle...and since this was a split bottle, i still got one more."

On tap at Taps in Petaluma. Pours a reddy brown color without much head. Malty and mild bourbon balances well.
