Belgian Ales represent the height of the brewers' art. Sophisticated brewing techniques, yeast blends and unique flavoring elements have elevated the beers of Belgium to the status enjoyed by wine in other countries. PranQster follows in this tradition using a mixed culture of antique yeast strains that results in a floral nose, a full fruity flavor and a clean finish.

750 mL bottle poured into a Belgian tulip. The nose is a pleasant aromatic blend of sweet, fleshy stone fruits, apple cider, sour white grape, an abundant floral blend, and lemon. The floral note does have some metallic-like hints in there, but I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt and call it spicy. The appearance is a dull, slightly hazy yellow with a light, unstable, foamy white head that recedes quickly. A tiny patch of white fuzz in the center remains with a barely held together ring around the edge. The lace is runny and leaves a clean glass. The taste is a pleasant blend of medium levels of sweet, with a medium light bitter finish accompanied by a slight sour touch. Moderate amounts of soft, fizzy carbonation give the medium bodied beer a light, creamy texture. The tongue is first introduced to the sweetness and finishes with a dry, spicy floral note. This gives way to a fruity, sugary juice aftertaste which lingers, but very light and mellow.

12 oz bottle. Pours a yellow/amber with light head. Light yeasty aroma with notes of bananas, resin, and spice. Flavors are similar with a additional stoned fruit and malty notes. Nice Belgian yeastiness but not overly so. A sessionable Belgian.

Appearance and palate isn't anything special, but the rest of the beer will surprise you. Lots of great taste and a good aroma. A must try. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

@ Hyde Park Wine and Spirits / Cincinnati OH --- Dirty golden amber with streamers in the drink, rim head, no lace. Taste is slightly sour malt that adds spices in the palate before turning oddly bitter in the finish. It seems like a Belgian Ale that lost its way. Perhaps this is just an old bottle. Not recommended.

12 oz bottle from Hy-Vee Muscatine ($3). Orange and hazy appearance with light sediment and an average sized, fully dissipating white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, banana, clove, earthy hops, floral notes, spices and herbs. Similar flavor, mostly yeasty and fruity, mild to medium sweetness, light bitterness Medium body, average carbonation. Pretty smooth.

On tap at the Beer Trappe in Lexington. Very hazy yellow-gold with a durable head and excellent lacing. The aroma is surprisingly subtle and mild but the spicy Belgian yeast does show. Otherwise, sweet and fruity (mostly lemon). The flavor largely follows, albeit with more yeast evident . A bit peppery, lemony and grassy. Light body seems a bit thin, but has fine, soft carbonation. O: refreshing, tame and highly drinkable.

Pours a lightly hazy golden yellow with a dense long lasting white head while leaving lots of lace on the glass. Aroma of fruity esters intertwined with spicy peppery phenols, noble hops and a light alcohol. Taste is fruity like pears and apples mixed with some spicy peppery phenols, sweet pil malt base and a soft alcohol presence with leaves a delicate warming on the finish. Medium bitterness is present from the hops and alcohol mixed together and full flavor is detected from the high carbonation which leaves the characteristic dry finish. Pleasure to drink...great American brewed belgian style ale!
