3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: OCT 21, 2004 Head is initially small, frothy/fizzy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy medium yellow, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly hoppy (flowers), moderately yeasty (mold, cobwebs), lightly malty (cookie, toasted grain), with notes of clove, pear, coriander. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly bitter, moderately acidic. Finish is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. A seemingly oversimplified example...it has some obligatory moldy/cobwebby yeast and clove, but there's nothing stylish or distinctive about this. Too sweet. It's not bad, but it seems like this is just a checkmark next to "make a Belgian beer" on a brewer's style list.

Nice sweet, citrusy clean taste. OK aroma, average head, melts down quickly. The faintest off flavor at the finish. A nice version of a Belgian golden ale. It does fall short of similar microbrews - La Fin du Monde or Hennepin, for example, and true Belgians, specifically, Duvel. Nonetheless, a nice beer, any fan of Belgian beer should enjoy. One guy mentions Wit beers here, I think this beer is an excellent warm weather beer served chilled - just remember the alcohol content.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Yeasty, buttery aroma. Malty, spicy, taste with a hint of fruitiness. A sweet heavy beer balanced somewhat by a dry hoppy finish. Tastes like a Duvel/Chimay White cocktail. Very tasty.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Inviting initial smell. Hazy apricot color with densely packed white head. Friendly aroma. Shovels of complex fruit flavors. Rich and full tasting with a fairly heavy mouthfeel. Just slightly cloying - I thought it left behind a little ícobweb of honey flavorí in the back of my throat, but it wasnít really a problem. Loved the yeastís contribution to the flavor.

Not incredibly impressive for this style...seemed overly yeasty and pretty bland. Covers the alcohol fairly well but there was some sort of an aftertaste that I didnít enjoy that I canít quite put my finger on...good, but not great.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
A very average Belgian style ale. In all honesty this smelled,
tasted, looked, and felt more like a wit. Very yeasty aroma and somewhat creamy yeast flavors. Coriander and possible orange zest in the nose as well. Not very impressed, but you might want to consider this if you are looking for a decent wit.

A clean Belgian strong. Methinks that Iím going to make this my benchmark American Belgian. Cidery, yeasty. Reminds me of a couple of Unibroues varieties..

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Alcohol aroma, with pear and coriander flavors. And medicinal. The sample I tasted was quite confused and not particularly pleasant.

just too strong for little ole me!
i really liked the sweet/bitter balance. in fact, the taste of this beer was so much more FULL than my current fav (blanche de chambly) that i would definitely have to vote for keepin it in country if you want a tasty belgian style golden. (this beer kicked B-d-CHís butt when it comes to actual taste and flavor.--itís strength/alc content is itís downfall imho.)

Sweet tasting Belgian ale from Mendocino County, golden but a little cloudy in color, not as strong as some of the imports.
