Belgian Ales represent the height of the brewers’ art. Sophisticated brewing techniques, yeast blends and unique flavoring elements have elevated the beers of Belgium to the status enjoyed by wine in other countries.

PranQster follows in this tradition using a mixed culture of antique yeast strains that results in a floral nose, a full fruity flavor and a clean finish.

Bottle. Banana aroma with clove and wheat malt notes. Pours cloudy golden colored with a thin white head with decent retention and some lacing. Starts with sweet banana and wheat malt flavors. Finishes smooth with spicy clove flavors coming through with the other flavors. Nice Belgian.

12oz Rudat via Derer Imp. ("MHD 10/2015", but what about the original BB date?). - Odd starchy pollen nose, green banana peel, mild honey, thin clove. Tastes transported on a thin and almost too clean mouthfeel for a Belgian ale (although I do welcome the lack of Liquid candi sugar-powered Belgian slick-oiliness on the palate here): honeyed malts, banana peel, sweet grapejuice, an odd tinny hop bitterness. Feels deliberately "composed" instead of grown into an organic whole, but is actually quite drinkable and very dry, without those style-defining fuming phenols.

Bottle. Pour a light reddish-orange. Sediment abound. A confusing ale. Smells of starch and grapefruit. Wheat and malt and citrus and spice. Feels holiday-like. Unpleasant like one too.

3oz sampe at Cerveza Mexico 2015. Clear light golden with a minimal head. Sweet citrus and sour tart and barnyard aromas. Sweet and sour as expected, with a strong Belgian malt character and a fruity and stinging bitter finish.

(bottle, 35.5cl) Slightly hazy, golden colour with a blond medium-sized foamy head. Yeasty, delicately sugary malty aroma with spicy and subtle fruity notes. Moderately sweet and slightly bitter flavour, medium to full bodied with a soft carbonation. Slightly biscuity and sugary malty base with yeasty spice, delicately fruity notes and a whiff of caramel; sweet malty and moderately bitter, spicy and slightly alcoholic finish. Not a must. 04.V.15

PranQster? I only just met her! Sorry. Unlike that joke, a pale Belgian-style ale never gets old. This gold-colored beer looks lovely in a tulip glass with its effervescent body and fluffy head. Aroma gives off yeast esters that are fruity, earthy, bread-like, and a bit spicy. The flavor is a balanced mix of banana, crisp clove, and rich malt. Does it taste like something that comes from Belgium? Sure. Is it one of the best Belgian-style brews to be made stateside. I think so, yes. Was the 4-pack a good idea? Definitely. Why the hell am I asking so many rhetorical questions? This has to be better than the -er jokes, right? Damn, that’s another rhetorical question.

Bottle in the Marketplace Ale House, Doncaster. Pours golden with a thin white head. Fruity peach aroma. The taste is lightly spicy booze with a little peach. Caramel, tea and orange peel too. OK.
