Belgian Ales represent the height of the brewers’ art. Sophisticated brewing techniques, yeast blends and unique flavoring elements have elevated the beers of Belgium to the status enjoyed by wine in other countries. PranQster follows in this tradition using a mixed culture of antique yeast strains that results in a floral nose, a full fruity flavor and a clean finish.

A hazy golden yellow on the pour with a medium white head. Aroma is of sweet spices, ripe fruit some notes of citrus. Taste is sweet spices, ripe fruit, Belgian yeast with a mild bitterness. Medium body with a mild crispness on the palate. Finish is sweet spices, fruity, yeast with a mild bitterness, a slight dry ending with a lingering mild bitterness. Overall a solid very good Belgian style ale.

Served with a nice frothy head in a half pint snifter. Smelled delicious. Had a fruity sour taste nice lingering on the palate. I forgot how good of Belgian beer can be. I loved it.

Poured from tap, cloudy golden colour with medium head. Not strong nose with a bit of sulphur. Medium mouthfeel and carbonation. Banana coming through on the flavour

Pours cloudy medium gold with a short, short-lived white head diminishing rapidly to a thin skim, patchy lacing. (3/5) Nose is bready malt, ripe fruit, banana and faint cloves. (7/10) Taste is moderate sweet, moderate bitterness. (6/10) Medium body, low carbonation, creamy and spicy finish. (3/5) An acceptable - if not stellar - Belg-ish pale. A shade too sweet for my preference, and lacking the crispness and dryness I associate with BSPAs. A decent American interpretation of this Belgian style, especially for the price. (14/20)

Pours very light and cloudy with a one finger head. Very light body. Very light belgian taste with floral and fruity flavors and finishes very smooth. Very easily drinkable.

Very floral nose from the yeast strain. On the tongue, you can pick up more floral and yeasty flavors, with it mellowing out on the palate. Another very solid beer from North Coast!

Fairly clear golden pour with small one finger head that lasts about 3 min. Sweet and fruity aromas - candi sugar and a multitude of dried fruits with a little earthy and lightly funky belgian yeast. The taste is also highly sweet and fruity, with dried pineapple, dried banana, dried papaya, dried apple, preserved cherry, a little biscuit and only a hint of funk. Medium to full bodied, oily and a little spicy. A good range of flavours but let down by a cloying sweetness. Would’ve been even better with some bitterness and/or dryness to balance it.

12 oz bottle into a Chimay goblet. A: Pours a hazy golden color. The head is about a finger high, and white in shade. Retention is lacking next to the Duvels of the world, but it doesn’t fizzle to nothing immediately. There are some splotchy patches of lacing left on the glass. S: This really seems to hit more of the malty/bready notes instead of the estery ones. Prevalent notes of bread and black pepper comprise the majority of this beer’s aroma. It’s not entirely devoid of fruit, however - some nice apple, lemon, and grape skin tones come out when this beer warms up. T: It starts off very bready, spiced with a touch of black pepper. This flavor sticks all the way to the finish, but there’s a pleasant (yet subdued) flavor of fruit esters (like grape skin, lemon, and apple) to keep it somewhat interesting. Would be great with more depth; still pretty good. M: Somehow, it’s a little ’cleaner’ than I like my Belgian-style ales to feel. It’s got the crispness and carbonation nailed down pat, but it could also use a little more dryness, as well. I don’t really get the feel of ’evaporating off of my palate" like I do with other BSPAs. O: A solid ’Murican interpretation of the style. This one wasn’t fully nailed in particular - it needs more complexity AND a drier back end - but it’s reasonably priced enough where I’d gladly buy it again.
