Bottle. Nice clean pale ale. Solid hop aromas. Backed by citrus and grapefruit in the taste. Pretty awesome easy going pale.

Bottle from BrookFalls Discount. Amber orange pour, lightly foamy off-orange head leaving lots of lace. Aroma has fruits, pine and a bit of soap. Taste is of pine, tangy herbs, berries and some citrus. Sweetly fruity but also bitter. 12.8

In a time when Pale Ales are being hopped extravagantly for pungent aromas and bitter flavors, Red Seal Ale is a Pale Ale that’s happy to be just that: a Pale Ale. Don’t get me wrong, Red Seal has plenty of hops to remind you that it’s West Coast ale. Yet, the aroma offers a preliminary hint of the balance between malt and citrusy hops. The flavor is bitter, but the malt isn’t overshadowed at all. Mouthfeel is beautiful. This ale is crisp and clean in a way that reminded me a bit of Pliny. (Hey, I said a bit - I know you’ve got to be careful with that comparison.) This red-orange brew has all the right stuff.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
From a bottle. Beer pours amber with minimal head and lacing. Aroma is lacking - very malty. Taste is overwhelmed by a grassy, malty backbone. Not a good beer!
