3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: DEC 2, 2007 Bottle. I tried one of these for the first time in many years. As I have become a hop fanatic, I have been trying more and more IPAs and IPA2s, somewhat forgetting some of the other ales from the past such as this. Pours a deep amber with generous off-white head. Aroma is a balance of malt and hops as is the flavor. While it seems to lean slightly to the malt side of things, there is always a nice hop presence backing the malt. It finishes with hoppy aftertaste that I quite enjoyed. This is what an IPA fan should drink in place of Brown ales/Amber ales/Octoberfests.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Fresh aroma of floral and slightly citrusy hops. I also get some malty sweetness. The carbonation is ok for the style and i get flavors of sprucy, resiny hops and some citrus. I think the hop aromas has faded some in my beer. Nicely bitter finish. OK Pale ale, but nothing out of the ordinary.

3.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 5/20
Poured from a bottle it is a cloudy ale that looks like raspberry soda and has a slight head. It has the aroma of malt and tastes bitter and is hard to discern it lingers long on the palate

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Pours a hazy copper with coarse, khaki head. Some lace. Aroma is mildly nutty, toffee. Flavor is similar, nutty, strong toffee finish, with a mildly bitter finish. Hops come through only in bitterness, not flavor. Soft carbonation and medium-light body. More of a mild amber ale than a pale.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pleasant beer. Caramel and nuts in the aroma, with a nice red look. Good head but goes fast, no lace. Hoppy taste, with good malts and a spicy fresh finish, probably due to the barley.

2.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
355 ml bottle bought at YATA in Grand Century Place, Mong Kok.
Cloudy hazy dark amber colour with traces of dirt like yeast sediments; One finger head and off white foam which last for 2 minutes; Very good sticky lacing with active carbonation; Very fragrant aroma of sweet ale malt, with fresh pineapple, honey, mango, light grapefruit, orange blossoms, canned fruits, light pine cone and faint grass; Light sweet taste of ale malt, with grapefruit, strong yeast, dry biscuits, cream crackers, molasses, resin, light pine, liquorices, bitter lime and grass; Mid to light body, thin but slick palate; Mouth Feel is healthy Ale malt base with hard-hitting dry, bready, yeasty and a strong oozy touch, despite the rather thin body and palate. Grapefruit and honey is thread-bare; Hoppiness is highly fragrant tropical fruits, light grapefruits, floral and pine noses, fairly light grapefruit and resin in taste, and rather moderate liquorices / bitterness, rather underwhelming as opposed to the 42 IBUs it claimed. Moderately but low blow bitter finish; Very dry after taste, quite easy to mouth.
Comments: This one has exceptionally fresh and exotic tropical fruits plus piney nose, but itís overtly dry, so little fruitiness in taste, and unimpressive hoppiness. Itís better than decent, but not as good as such APA standard bearers as Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Still glad to try this one though.
