Named for the delicate engravings popularized by 19th century seafarers, Scrimshaw is a fresh tasting Pilsner brewed in the finest European tradition from Munich and Klages malts, Hallertauer and Tettnang hops. Scrimshaw has a subtle hop character, a crisp, clean palate, and a dry finish.

Trevlig.

Mild aroma, with corn, grass, and a little skunk that breathed off after a few minutes. Flavor is lightly sweet a mild, with a little grassy hop bitterness in the finish. Nothing spectacular, but good, solid beer.

poured from brown bottle into a pilsner glass A: Pours a finger of frothy tight head. Dark gold color. Hazy. Good head retention and lacing. Lace pattern left all the way up the glass at the end. S: Light smell of the hops with crisp bread at the back. Inviting carbonation rising. T: Crisp bread/biscuit, hops seem almost an afterthought at first. I love the malt profile of this beer. Subtly grainy but very pronounced crackers/crusty bread. Maybe hard for the hops to keep up but they do come through on the finish as slightly piny. Hops are there but thankfully NC saw no need to have them overpower the biscuit and grain. Malty but this fortunately does not strike me as sweet although if left to warm, the malts will become overbearing. M: Silky, soapy. Carbonation is nice and tingly. Somehow a bit heavy for a pils. O: One of my current favorites. Definitely in my top 3! I love this and consider it a great representation of the style, even if a bit far to the malty side. The low ABV is also quite a plus to me. Perfect summer brew. I would drink these all the time if they weren’t so damned expensive ($11/6).

12 oz. bottle from Whole Foods. Pours clear gold with a lasting off white head. Some noble hop aroma with a hint of citrus. Slightly sweet, graham cracker malt arrival. Clean, slightly floral mid-palate with only mild hop bitterness. Fresh, crisp, refreshing and tasty. Love the low carb, low ABV. A well crafted Pilsner.

Always a quality brew. Year-round drinkability. Malt dominates, hops are appropriately secondary. A sipper.

12oz bottle. Golden color with one finger head. Malty and grassy taste, ends bitter. Good pilsner. Easy to drink.

This is a very solid pilsner. It’s not a beer you seek out, and Lagunitas Pils is more fun, but it’s way more drinkable than your standard adjunct pilsner.

On draft poured into pint glass. Wasn’t much of a head. A little malty and hoppy aroma to it. Tasted really fresh for a pilsner. Would drink again, a go to pilsner.

Clear golden with a big, fluffy white head. The aroma has a bit of doughy pils malt, with some Munich malt in there too. There is just a faint hint of hops. Nice slightly toasted malt notes with some chewy sweetness, and ends with a crisp finish. Pretty good.

Typical translucent golden yellow pilsener appearance, although perhaps slightly more golden. Meager aroma consisting of malt, yeast, but a little bit of cereal and honey to make it interesting. Pleasantly surprised as it’s relatively complex for a pils. Medium body, initially honey and cereal, but finishes slightly bitter and grassy. Good.
