Named for the delicate engravings popularized by 19th century seafarers, Scrimshaw is a fresh tasting Pilsner brewed in the finest European tradition from Munich and Klages malts, Hallertauer and Tettnang hops. Scrimshaw has a subtle hop character, a crisp, clean palate, and a dry finish.

12 oz bottle into a footed pilsner glass. A: Pours a straw color that isn’t completely opaque. The head features a nice layering of foam, about three fingers high in total. Texture-wise, it’s bubbly and rocky, typical of the style. S: There are a decent amount of grassy hops here, along with a touch of fruity esters. Nothing remarkable here, yet perfectly acceptable given the style in mind. T: The first thing I notice on the palate are some hints of fruity esters. Afterwards, it shifts to a mildly hoppy finish. The hops here are grassy, earthy, lemony, and even a bit peppery. There’s a really enjoyable balance to this one, all told. M: Light on the palate, with sweeping carbonation. I’d reckon it could be a touch drier; then again, I like my pilsners bone-dry. Easy to drink as it should be. O: Solid. There are few other pilsners I’d go for over this one, but I’d pick this over many others, too.

12 oz. bottle served in a shaker- poured a transparent solid yellow color, 1.5mm white head formed but did not lace at all. Aroma of cigarette butts (the cheap ones, trust me on that) and light malt. Hits the mouth with a light body, malt tastes like it has some wheat in it which makes it a little refreshing more than normal, middle has that same cigarette butt taste as I smelt in the aroma, finish is only partly clean and still retains that same damn cigarette butt taste. Can’t tell if it’s Pall Mall Blue 100’s, Camel Filter, or Viceroy’s- still, a little disgusting, even for a smoker like me!

Your basic, refreshing American Craft Beer. Maybe even the Budweiser of Craft? Meant it as a compliment but take it how you like.

Bottle shared at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Trade with trapped. Bottle received after BB date. Clear gold with a big white head. Sweet, medicinal honey aroma, sweet, stale taste. Light body, flattish. Ugh.

On tap @ Murphy's. Clean aroma with light hop notes. White head with medium bubbles. Very interesting flavor lots of sweet malt flavor. An unexpected flavor in a pilsner. At least I think so. A very flavorful pilsner. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft. Gold color with thin white head that dissipates quickly; some lacing. Toasted malt aroma. Toasted biscuit dominates with a sharp, bitter bite in the backend. No true pilsner flavor but surprisingly complex and refreshing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. There is not much to say about this beer- it is a pretty generic pilsener. Not great, but not bad. Easy to drink.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a medium golden amber color with tons of carbonation bubbles cascading up through the brew to produce a billowy white head of foam. The head is a little on the thicker side, fading over about a 4 min time frame and leaving a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is quite strong of caramel and toffee sweetness mixed with a little bit of a peach and apricot smell. Along with these aromas comes some nice grainy notes as well as a little bit of some grapefruit citrus hop. Taste – The taste begins with a somewhat drier bready and cracker taste mixed with some lighter caramel flavors. The caramel fades a bit as the taste moves on but is replaced by some of the peach and apricot fruit smells that were in the nose. These fruit however later fade, again drying out the flavor a bit. With a light hop taste consisting of some earthy and herbal flavors coming at the very end, one is left with a drier and crisp flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thinner side with a carbonation level that is rather high. For the crisp and refreshing nature of the brew the feel is spot on and makes for an easy drinking brew. Overall – A rather nice drinker overall that makes for a rather good summer brew.

on tap. Dull aroma with a trace of hay in the nose. Very dim yellow but more white with very slight haze in clarity. Head disappears quickly with no lacing. Flavor is faint bread. Hard to pick up on much past that which I like a little floral aroma and taste to come through slightly in a pilsner. Overall a bit thin and lacking for what I expect. No flaws or off flavors, just needs a little umph!

Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks kerenmk. 2015th rating in 2015! Clear golden with a white head. Weird aroma of store-bought hummus with za’atar , cardboard and graininess. Grainy flavor, sweetish, with cardboard, a spicy note, and a bitterish finish. Light-bodied. Not fresh.
