Named for the delicate engravings popularized by 19th century seafarers, Scrimshaw is a fresh tasting Pilsner brewed in the finest European tradition from Munich and Klages malts, Hallertauer and Tettnang hops. Scrimshaw has a subtle hop character, a crisp, clean palate, and a dry finish.

12 oz bottle into a footed pilsner glass. A: Pours a straw color that isn’t completely opaque. The head features a nice layering of foam, about three fingers high in total. Texture-wise, it’s bubbly and rocky, typical of the style. S: There are a decent amount of grassy hops here, along with a touch of fruity esters. Nothing remarkable here, yet perfectly acceptable given the style in mind. T: The first thing I notice on the palate are some hints of fruity esters. Afterwards, it shifts to a mildly hoppy finish. The hops here are grassy, earthy, lemony, and even a bit peppery. There’s a really enjoyable balance to this one, all told. M: Light on the palate, with sweeping carbonation. I’d reckon it could be a touch drier; then again, I like my pilsners bone-dry. Easy to drink as it should be. O: Solid. There are few other pilsners I’d go for over this one, but I’d pick this over many others, too.

Clear golden pour. Normal head volume, outstanding retention and lacing. Light nose of noble hops over biscuit with a hint of lemon. Light body that has a texture of water. Perfect carbonation with a burst of middle effervescence and rollicking finely bubbled prickly finish. The flavor profile is quite good, but lacks the intensity and complexity to be outstanding. It begins pretty much as it ends. A light hop flavor over a light biscuit and mild bitterness. The finish is clean, dry and crisp.

Bottle pour. This was okay. Aroma is pure Pilsener but I thought the taste was a little off. Okay.

Glass bottle. No expiry date. So who knows.

Pours a honey color. About one finger head. Doesn’t last long. Does leave a little around the edge of the surface. No lacing.

Aroma is light. Not a lot of anything. Breadiness. Lemon zest. That’s about all.

I might as well be drinking bread. That’s about all I can taste. Again there is some citrus or lemon in there. It tastes pretty good but there’s not much to say about it.

Mouthfeel is medium. It tastes light. It finishes slightly bitter but smooth.

Overall its okay. I think its slightly off for a pilsner. Not as good as I expected or hoped for, but still not bad.
