COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named for the delicate engravings popularized by 19th century seafarers, Scrimshaw is a fresh tasting Pilsner brewed in the finest European tradition from Munich and Klages malts, Hallertauer and Tettnang hops. Scrimshaw has a subtle hop character, a crisp, clean palate, and a dry finish.

Pours a light gold with a small white head. Aroma is sort of floral with some bready notes. A light body: flavors of honey, bread, fruits, and spices. This is the best Pilsener I’ve had, though that’s not saying much. Good for summertime cookouts and for those times where you want something a little more mellow.

Crystal clear light gold. Light sweet malt aroma, with slight grain. Crisp and very clean tasting with nice drying mouthfeel. Lively carb bite and medium body that lasts throughout. Pronounced bitterness, with a slight skunk that arrived as it warms. Hay flavor and slight sweet dough linger in the finish. Not the best pilsner I’ve had, but it is solid.

355 ml bottle bought at foodGARDEN in D2 Place, Lai Chi Kok.

Clear golden orange colour; One-quarter finger head and soapy white foam which fades in 20 seconds; Very small lacing and fizzy carbonation; Sweet aroma of Munich malt, with orange, honey, molasses, light bread, lemon and very light grass; Light sweet taste of malt, with earth, faint orange zest, floral, hint of honey, light molasses, light bread, thin spices, and very light lemony grass; Close to light body. Quite slick palate; Mouth feel is like a Heller Bock without booze and sugar. Easy, light-weight, low sweetness but that Munich-induced Bock taste is very prevalent, with good touches of orangey honey notes. Malt is moderate, bare-bone breadyness. Not our usual German Pils but still refreshing enough; Hoppiness is light orange and grass nose. Light earth, light spice, and very light lemony grassy hops in taste. Faint bitterness background, mostly Munich malt honey molasses- like finish; Slightly dry after taste. Very easy to mouth.

Comments: This is not the usual German-style Pils. Not lager-like, not very rich, and not lemony-bitter at all. Its rather like a de-boozed and low-sweet Bock. Very easy and no-doubt good for Summer, but it begs the question: what’s the point when there are many good Pils and Bock around but having this? Once is enough.

I really wanted to like this brew... I did but it just didn;t live up to other beers from North Coast with a flat profile and light malts and hops. Even as a pilsner its a bit underwhelming overall. Pours a light gold with a soapy head. The nose is light and grassy with cereal notes. Much of a similar state in the middle with a light aftertaste of grassy hops.

On draught at the Underground in Edmonton. Okay enough pilsner, could use some more body.

Gold colored pour w/ pillowy white head. Grassy & bread aromas & flavors w/ low hop profile producing dry finish. Well carbonated, light smooth mouthfeel. Nice Pilsner.

Clear golden with a bubbly/rocky head. The aroma is a wee touch metallic with some earthy pale malt and a wee herbal-ish hop quality. Flavor is crisp and clean, no metallic tones from the nose thankfully, just a grassy/herbal earthy hop tone that shouts "German", some semi-dry pilsner malts, and just a wee touch of pepper. Not shabby. Just sorta forgettable.

UPDATED: MAR 3, 2014 Pours a nice clear gold color with a thick soapy head. Aroma is sweet barley malt with a slight roastyness. Taste follows the Aroma with just enough hops to keep the malt from being too sweet. This is a simple but very well made Pils. Very delicious!! Light body easy drinking. The best Pils I?ve had.
