COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named for the delicate engravings popularized by 19th century seafarers, Scrimshaw is a fresh tasting Pilsner brewed in the finest European tradition from Munich and Klages malts, Hallertauer and Tettnang hops. Scrimshaw has a subtle hop character, a crisp, clean palate, and a dry finish.

strong hop presence, another North Coast winner! But not really a pilsner.

This is a fantastic traditional pilsner that exemplifies balance and subtlety better than 99% of craft beer out there. Tasty, refreshing, well executed, though it is somewhat simple. This is what BMC should taste like.

10 ounce sample on tap at Magnolia. Surprised I had never rated this before. Lightly spicy, metallic, and grassy aroma. Light biscuit malt sweetness, too. Transparent golden body with a small, white head present. Decent lacing. Starts a little spicy and herbal. Nice carbonation present. Becomes fairly sweet in the middle with biscuit pils maltiness. Finishes with a very mild earthy bitterness. A little too sweet.

10 June 2013, bottle. Yellow, clear, lots of steady bubbles. Nose is mildly sweet cereal malt. Thin body, crisp, and moderately fizzy. Lightly lemony, mostly non-descript. So carbonated its hard to taste anything. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle that poured a hazy yellow color with a white head, there was lots of carbonation in the glass. I got a mild aroma of grass and biscuit. the flavor again was quite mild with the same grassiness and biscuit. was expecting a nice clean crisp flavor which wasn’t there. not overall bad just was expecting a little bit more.

Golden color with white head. Light malty aroma with some grassy notes. Taste is very crisp and clean with mild hoppyness. Finishes with some slight bitterness. A very good pilsener!

Clear golden pour with a white head. Sweet bread and biscuit aromas. Floral hops, mild grass, yeast, and some apple esters. Basic flavor of bread and biscuit, maybe a bit of dough. Lightly floral, some grass, and yeast. Maybe some fruity ester sweetness.

12 oz bottle into a footed pilsner glass. A: Pours a straw color that isn’t completely opaque. The head features a nice layering of foam, about three fingers high in total. Texture-wise, it’s bubbly and rocky, typical of the style. S: There are a decent amount of grassy hops here, along with a touch of fruity esters. Nothing remarkable here, yet perfectly acceptable given the style in mind. T: The first thing I notice on the palate are some hints of fruity esters. Afterwards, it shifts to a mildly hoppy finish. The hops here are grassy, earthy, lemony, and even a bit peppery. There’s a really enjoyable balance to this one, all told. M: Light on the palate, with sweeping carbonation. I’d reckon it could be a touch drier; then again, I like my pilsners bone-dry. Easy to drink as it should be. O: Solid. There are few other pilsners I’d go for over this one, but I’d pick this over many others, too.

Bottle. Yellow pour with a decent amount of head and a good amount of lacing for a pilsner. Smells of yeast and slight hops. Tastes of the same with a very slight bready finish. Good for a pilsner. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
