1.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
North Coast Grand Cru has an extremely thin, off-white head, an opaque, brilliant orange appearance, few bubble streams, and no lacing left behind. The aroma is of an intense mix of bourbon, sweetness, coconut, alcohol, and fruit juice. Taste is harsh- shaved coconut, alcohol, juice, sweet, lightly-roasted malt, and a vanilla background. Mouthfeel is heavy, chewy, and cloying, and North Coast Grand Cru finishes rich and overly sweet and alcohilic. After sipping on it for about an hour, I did notice that the coconut faded and more of a caramel aspect presented itself. The beer is complex, but not particularly enjoyable. Just too harsh. RJT

Superbe arôme de chêne imbibé de nectar d’agave, ça s’annonçait suave. Le liquide est à cheval sur le liquoreux et le duveteux, expérience luxuriante.

1.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20
A: pale golden with little head production. No lace. Etched mirror surface. Excellent clarity.
S: pear juice, some floral notes, belgian yeast. Kinda like a tripel with a sharp edge.
T: Really sweet and cloying. Wow, this is like syrup and tripel yeast. Wow, seriously sweet. So much yeast flavor too.
M: Thick and sticky with moderate on low carb. Semi dry finish.
O: This beer is an embarrassment.

Bottle. Little to no cork pop. Minimal white head. Cloudy yellow color. Nose is slightly tart/off. Taste is initially sweet with a peppery note. Finish is slightly tart and full of alcohol warming. Gotta think I got a bad bottle.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from 500 ml bottle after cellaring for 14 months. Lightly hazy, golden amber with a 4-finger cream/pale yellow head and very good lacing. Aroma of white wine, pear, apple, tropical fruit, sweet light fruit and yeast. Taste of sweet light fruit, white wine, orange, pear, apple, tropical fruit and yeast. Alcohol us there, but buried under sweet fruit. Medium/full body and medium/high carbonation. Very fruity for a Belgian-style strong ale. Cellaring has improved this beer by softening the alcohol and removing the cloying mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Large bottle with friends at Bitter Tasting Room in Vancouver. A golden brew with moderate head. My first taste impression was...ooh, cider, but then it got more complex. Sweet and fruity with a dry finish. Yum!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2012, one year aged. Pours slightly unclear yellow with white fizz. Musty earthy grains and a Belgian sweet funk fill the nose. The flavor is big fruit Belgian pale malts and a rich oak with all the aroma elements carrying over. Musty earthy funky brew and relatively quick finish for such a big beer. It has some booze and sweet overtones. Still very good.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, as grand cru. Clear gold pour with quickly receding white head. Aroma is sweet, sticky honey, really malty, boozy notes, some fruits (ripe pears), light menthol-like aromas. Taste is sweet, boozy, rich, caramel, figs, pears with a long sweet boozy honey like finish. Palate is a tad hot, full bodied with low carb. Not pretty, not particularly amazing, but feels good on the palate. A decent sipper.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Brass beer, no head, peraly carbonation. Fruity nose. Apricots, vinegar. Belgian yeast gone bad. Get sweeter as it opens up, ends up dull.
