4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Amber body on this one with an average but lasting white head. Aromas of pear, mango, and tart apple skin. Can detect slight oak. Agave is less pronounced. One of the best masked ABVís for this strength of beer. Very smooth palate. Good stuff here.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
500 ml bottle poured into tulip. Hazy orange-blossom honey hue with a sizeable foamy white head leaving slight lacing. Earthy aroma of oak, tequila. Big flavor of peach, bourbon, wood, honey and tequila. Itís a bit on the sweet side, but I donít mind that. Nice warming alcohol quality. This was more than I generally spend on a beer, but I think it was worth it.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Avery Strong Ale Festival. Appearance: finger of white head, straw yellow color, cloudy. Aroma: bourbon, oak, fruit, light tequila. Palate: dry finish, average carbonation, light to medium body. Taste: bourbony sweetness to fruity sweetness. Overall, one of the more unique beers at the festival, and one I need to try again for sure.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
I had this at Global Brew. Pours orangish-gold with a white head. Taste sweet, fruity, slightly boozy. I thought this was ok. I would skip drinking this again.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Attractive hazy orange pour with a quickly fading white head. Light tequila and oak in the aroma with a relatively clean and sweet malt profile. Taste is tequila with complimentary sweet malt and some bitter fruit notes with alcohol vapors. Coating mouthfeel. I like it.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Lunar Brewing Co., and snifter served, showing a hazed, orangey gold color, with a modest layer off white, gradually diminishing head froth, with light waves of lacing rising from the thin, persistent ring of foam. The nose offered tartness, pit fruit as peach & apricot, a touch of sweetness, and a subtle, but lurking alcohol presence at this point. Medium to full bodied, with good effervescence, the flavor became quite nectar sweet, but was held in check from becoming too cloying by the now strong & warming alcohol, decent carbonation, tartness, and touch of finishing dryness. Missed any barrel notes of consequence, but enjoyed the warmth and sipable nature. Pricey pour, though.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
500 ml bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy golden orange color with a 2 finger fairly dense white head with decent retention, that reduces to a lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of big peach, pear, apricot, apple, orange peel, agave, clove, oak, pepper, light bourbon, light toffee, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, malt, and light-moderate barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big apricot, peach, pear, apple, orange peel, agave, caramel, vanilla, toffee, clove, oak, bourbon, herbal, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of apricot, peach, pear, apple, orange peel, agave, caramel, vanilla, toffee, oak, clove, bourbon, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, malt/agave, and bourbon barrel flavors; with an awesome barrel flavor balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and slightly syrupy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome barrel aged Belgian strong ale! All around great complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, malt/agave, and bourbon barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pour out of 500 mL bottle, clear orange pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of some sweet sugar, agave, hints of honey into some vanilla, toffee, slight grass in there with a hint of brown sugar, slight oaky notes as well. Taste is a big mix of sugar, some vanilla, caramel, honey, and agave into some slight oak, brown sugary notes, some biscuit, finishing fairly sweet, slightly boozy. Interesting, but no balance on this one.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Almost clear golden liquid with small white head. Aroma of dried fruit, port wine, bread, toffee, cachaca and wood. Taste is light sweet and light bitter with notes of dried fruit, port wine and raw sugar. Medium bodied with low carbonation. Quite nice.

2.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
16.9 floz corked and caged bottle to a Duvel Tulip
No date, purchased early 2013
A - Dirty/cloudy burnt orange, milky off-white head, not extremely pretty but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
S - Fruit puree, bananas, oranges, apricots, pears, apple cider, creamy smelling when cold but becomes more vinous as it warms. Oak is faintly in the background throwing apple and woody aromas. Some acidity aromas become more pronounced as it warms.
T - Fruit overloads the senses, sweet and tangy, more cidery than the nose describes. Spiced apples, lemons, oranges, tangy pears, grapes, peaches. A peppery bitterness runs on the edges and is hard to tell if itís coming from hops or alcohol. Thereís actually a handful of random spices that I canít even pick out. Oak and vanilla undertones are buried pretty deep beneath the powerful fruit esters. Alcohol bears down pretty hard creating a cloyingly sweet and boozy finish that has some spicy harshness to it.
M - Low effervescent carbonation that stings and prickles when you hold it in your mouth. Full bodied but light weight. The body changes from thick to thinner as it sets.
Smells great but the rest is a different story. Cloying gets thrown around on beer reviews quite a bit, but this...this is cloying. I donít mind alcohol presence but it, mixed with the cloyingly sweet fruit barrage, overpowered the dainty barrel notes I was hoping for. I appreciate trying to make a big beer like this but this just doesnít work for me.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Corked and Caged. A bit of a gusher, but no real problems. Pours yellow with a little head that didnít hang around. Aroma shows wood, alcohol, and caramel. Lovely if somewhat sweet, with a surprisingly dry finish. Very interesting beer.
